Published a regular issue of the journal "Modern Iran". Perhaps the single issue of "Modern Iran" had such a dramatic fate as the one that you, dear friends, read now. The dynamics of events unfolding around the Islamic Republic, has always placed before the editors a question: "What is most important to read about Iran today?"

Mass media was filled with the most conflicting rumors and predictions, the November IAEA report, "Hormuz crisis", the terrorist attacks inside and outside Iran, bellicose rhetoric of Israel and General instability in the region – all this has been hanging, was the cause for discussions about the relevance, demanded an immediate response on other sites... But all over, and in your hands the new issue that appeared after the elections to the Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran 9-th convocation.

What these elections have shown? First of all, both external and internal course of the current leadership of Iran has received approval of the majority of the population. Iranian society in General does not doubt the need to implement a peaceful nuclear program as a guarantor of the independence of the country. Most Iranians expressed support for the policy of modernization of the economy (the rejection of "pipe economy" and the development of knowledge-intensive industries), the growth of state regulation in economic and social spheres, inter-confessional and inter-ethnic policy of the leadership of the Islamic Republic.
Voting at polling stations for the Iranian people said that he was ready in the medium term, to endure economic hardships due to external pressure.

However, this readiness of the Iranian leadership should not be overestimated. To maintain public confidence and the administration of the President (for 18 remaining months before the election), and the Majlis need to focus less on the accusations and to pay more attention to the solution of acute social problems – the reduction of unemployment (especially among youth), stabilize the financial system, to curb rising consumer prices. In the near future the leadership of Iran (and the voting results on elections in the provinces say about this quite eloquently), you will need to return to the issue of social imbalances (increased social stratification and the difference in the level of income of urban and rural population).

And to exercise that leadership of Iran will have in terms of a new round of financial sanctions, which aim, among other things, to reduce its political and economic presence in the middle East, the Caucasus and Central Asia. But, perhaps the main conclusion according to the results of the elections is that the contradictions in the political field of Iran (referring, of course not talking about the "green opposition") are not antagonistic today. And it is quite an unpleasant surprise to anti-Iranian coalition of the West, today, making a bet on the split in Iranian society, that the deterioration in the financial status of the "middle Iranian" (let's not dissemble, and say that he is the main target of the sanctions) will make him an opponent of the regime...

And still ahead, Novruz, new year, 1391 solar Hijri calendar, adopted in the Islamic Republic. I can assure you that we will strive to ensure that its joys, problems, achievements and constraints objective found its reflection on the pages of our magazine. Navruz Muborak!
