Friends call him gentle word "moosie". Yes and it looks quite as seasoned, past the hell of Afghanistan and Chechnya officer, and as any intelligent Soviet engineer-nerd or an old skipper with the peace of a fishing trawler (because of the beard). In General, as they should, upon the submission of the layman to look like a veteran of the special forces. On the other hand, who needs to be like this person? On a closed, sullen, suspicious, broken life of John Rambo?
He's not vicious, but very modest. Quiet like this. Man of few words, said quietly, if not silently. That's probably why listen to him. But the answers to the questions provides detailed, articulates thoughts lucidly, with examples, almost literary.
Lanky, long-necked, with bulging over the collar of his shirt with a sharp Adam's Apple. Open, look straight, honest, blue-gray penetrating eyes, a soft, friendly smile. This civil appearance does not fit with his past. He even dresses up as something homey -- you know, the soft sweaters with scoop neck, wear under that shirt...
In General, until I saw it in my photo Studio in the Afghan "the gerbil", could not come to terms with the idea that it was the Huey, which in the 86th took part in the legendary and secret operations "Karera" for the destruction of fortified Islamic regiment name Abdul Vakil, why the special forces have crossed into Pakistan and have been fighting that for obvious reasons, denied the official Moscow. This quiet, humble trashed the caravan of the Mujahideen under the Jalalabad, seated on the throne Tajik Emomali Rahmon, oversaw the work on the creation in Chechnya of the first "ethnic" battalions of spetsnaz type "West" and "East". Finally, it is Musienko supervised exploration of special forces in operations on destruction of Ruslan Gelayev...
Gelayev was called the Black eagle. I don't know, eagle does it, but I treat them with respect to the opponent with a strong spirit. And so he died.
The helicopters, one of which I was as the commander of the group, cut slopes of the gorge with a machine gun, suggesting that there could be firing positions of fighters. Suddenly, the commander of the staff shouted to me:
— Commander, it's not yours?
— No! Spirits!
We saw two people climbing up the canyon. We were separated by not more than three hundred meters. I opened fire on them with a machine gun, but the commander of the helicopter crew asked me not to shoot and covered the slope of gulp 80-mm air-launched missiles. Fighters just safely from the ridge and blew down the avalanche. One of these two and was Ruslan Gelayev. It set in February, when his body was dug from under the snow. In General, death in the mountains... According to the pathologist's conclusion, the death of Gelayev was caused by "multiple shrapnel wounds, broken limbs and blood loss resulting from traumatic clipping of the hand".
But it was the last battle. And he began a military biography Musienko in Afghanistan.
In 1985, two months before graduating from the Kiev higher combined-arms command higher military command school, came "buyer" of the GRU and the interview asked me:
— But if the native land will send to fulfill an international duty?
I'll go with pleasure!
—That's right! Me to it four years making!
After graduation, I looked in the instruction... and immediately realized that this Afghan. Usually it stated the post, district, group of forces. I had only three words: "is at the disposal of the Turkmenistan military region (Turkestan military district. — "PP")". No details. So at 21, I was in the 154th separate detachment of special purpose (OOPN) 15-th brigade of special purpose GRU. Upon arrival I was told: "Work quietly. There is no “ass heroes”. There are the soldiers. You can be in control as an officer". And on the first climb I turned the bed with Dembele, who did not want to get up on the charging...
Experience combat before Afghanistan, I had no military education but I had a good. I knew all the techniques, all the weapons: from pistols to BMP, knew the topography, he knew how to navigate in unfamiliar terrain on the map.
Actually officially in Afghanistan, there was no GRU. The word "spetsnaz" was taboo. We were listed as the 1st separate infantry battalion, but served in a pure form of reconnaissance and sabotage tasks. We preyed on caravans from Pakistan and "scored" them. Personally, I have been in Afghanistan fighting 96 outputs. Every fifth of them was productive.
The first fight is always the worst. My first was in the village of Bagicha, 25 kilometers South of Jalalabad. We conducted a RAID on an Islamic Committee in the village. With them, we had a agent-that of the surrounding, we decided to cover the sudden RAID of all field commanders. In the rumble of screws Mi-24, which passed over the yard, where he sat "the Committee members", the sound of the two "eights" with troops on Board was heard, and two groups of intelligence were safely landed on the hill top.
Riot police appeared in the yard was completely unexpected for the spirits. The group commander Eugene Ovsyannikov just jumped off the cliff, agradable compound from the side of a hill. The scouts immediately proceeded to "sweep". In that battle I killed my first Ghost: two run away from the yard, and I took down one with a machine gun. The second managed to escape.
In that fight we lost the company commander captain Alexey Turkova and platoon commander Lieutenant Ovsyannikova. We slept in the next bed. He died immediately.
Then there was the 334th asadabadi squad. We were called the bombers. Unit was the most difficult area — district of Kunar, a mountainous terrain. I worked there for eight months.
For me, Afghanistan has remained a Holy war. It was the hour of GRU and the Swan song of the Soviet Army. In this war we are not lost. But did not win.
Musienko does not say "fought", "fought". He says "worked". It is the officer's job to fight and die. And they died. Price combat experience GRU for ten years — 875 dead scouts. But the enemy paid their life dearly.
Here is a quote from the order of the headquarters of the 40th army: "Only in 1987 by units of the special forces intercepted and destroyed 332 of the caravan with weapons and ammunition, which did not allow the leadership of the rebels to put in the internal province of Afghanistan more than 290 pieces of heavy weapons, 80 MANPADS (portable anti-aircraft missile system), 30 of the DRSP (the launchers of the rockets — Chinese 12-barrel analogue of the legendary Katyusha. — "PP"), more than 15 thousand min, 8 million rounds".
Tajikistan. The second war
Listening to the Colonel Musienko, think whether there had ever been in his life world? Shortly after the end of the Afghan war, he was sent to Nagorno-Karabakh. Three months of the war between Armenians and Azerbaijanis. And then there was Tajikistan.
In 1991, after the Soviet Union collapsed, the 15th brigade of the GRU, where I was then serving, present Uzbekistan. The rank of major, I received the order of the Minister of defense of Uzbekistan. In the summer of 1992 erupted into civil war in neighbouring Tajikistan. Defense Minister of Uzbekistan, Rustam Ahmadov ordered us to participate in the "restoration of the constitutional order of the Republic of Tajikistan". Was formed the recon team special purpose. I was chief of staff of this detachment. The squad — about a hundred people. Most officers with Afghan experience. By the way, our commander was Vladimir Kvachkov, who was tried for the attempt on Chubais.
In Tajikistan two warring camps divided into "yurchikov" and "lovchikov". "Urticae" were considered those who were for a secular power or another for something, and "vovchikus" — those who were seemingly in the Islamic opposition, that is the Wahhabis.
However, in both camps was recorded not so much by belief, but by place of residence and kinship, and the Republic was divided according to tribal basis. Pamiris, Culebra, karategini, gissara...
What's going on!.. Pass the ball-the Ball we counted thirty-victims of bandits Mullah Adjika. In one house I saw the corpse of a raped twelve year old girls. Her cheeks and neck were bite marks, stomach ripped... Next to her in the corner lay another dead ball of her six-year-old brother. In the ravine lay the corpse of their mother with his trousers... don't forget the gravel pit a few miles South of Kurgan-tube, filled with dead bodies kalabaw, partly gnawed by dogs. There counted more than three hundred and fifty corpses. Cut all in a row, not looking at gender and age, whole families and villages.
Our group worked in Kurgan-Tyube, and when the main part came back, I stayed in a part of task force ROUX gastric bypass Uzbekistan. In order to legalize, we came up with the name "people's front of Tajikistan" (NFT). Our main support has been a criminal authority Sangak Safarov, an elderly man who has been in prison for 21 years. It was a natural-born leader with excellent organizational skills, a keen sense of justice and patriotism — he led NFT.
It Sangak introduced me to "Anomalisa" — now the President of the Republic Emomali Rahmon. Then Rahmon was the Chairman of the collective farm. Still standing in front of his eyes picture: Rahmon with huge lagana (decorative plate. — "PP") pilaf and a bottle of vodka seems to be Sangaku on the occasion of the appointment of the Chairman of the Executive Committee. Later, after the death of Safarov, Emomali of puppets turned into a local God-the President, who destroyed all who brought him to power. Someone planted, someone's buried...
I was one of the main advisers of Sangaku, and later the Minister of internal Affairs of Tajikistan. We supplied the troops NFT weapons and ammunition, using special methods of guerrilla warfare, helped to unite everyone who was against the "lovchikov", and taught them to fight. In fact, the insurgency in Tajikistan was organized by the specialists of the GRU.
In fact, we fought too. This SWAT officers planned the operation and were the nucleus of all landings. "Lovchikov" drove from January to may and drove to the Pamirs. Successfully landing on the dominant heights in the Karategin valley. By the end of winter 1993 NFT troops with the battle took Romit fortified. Both operations were planned by Russians, the Uzbeks — 15 special forces brigade.
There were many small skirmishes, spontaneous operations, improvisations, which were rescued by the spetsnaz savvy. Remember the storming of the Ball-Ball 11 November 1992. Calls me scared to death Emomali and screaming that morning "Vovchik" straddled the pass. Asked for help, in General. We took, I will not say where, two APC easel grenade launcher 82 mm a mortar, loaded on a UAZ 30-mm automatic grenade launcher and... with two dozen soldiers went to attack the pass.
Acted as a textbook. Arrived at the foot, fired on the positions of mortars and grenade launchers. Upstairs was a fire in the grass, in a stew, one of our mines destroyed the house. Well then! And then we all, twenty men and officers, under the guise of the APC have gone on them in a frontal attack. Here "Vovchik" realized that fighting against them is not "urcite", and Russian, and ran away.
Although we were officers of the Uzbek army, but continued to serve Russia. In parallel with the war we waged political intelligence — thanks to our work there were created comfortable conditions for the transfer of power from politicians in the region, with which Moscow could build a normal relationship.
Civil war in Tajikistan, which lasted from 1992 to 1997, has claimed 85,000 lives. But the Colonel is sure: whether there are Russian special forces, the score could go into the hundreds of thousands and it is not improbable that Tajikistan as a state ceased to exist.
Chechnya. The Case Of Ulman
After Tajikistan Colonel Musienko returned to Russia and taught at the Novosibirsk higher military command school in the Department of special intelligence — prepared officers to units and formations of spetsnaz of the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation. It was then that he met with Eduard Ulman — he was a student at his faculty.
In the second Chechnya I was the commander of the officers ' operational group, to perform specific tasks: we were hunting for the leaders of Chechen bandit groups. Edik was the commander of a reconnaissance and worked with another graduate my. According to the reports I learned their names. They had two years experience and good results at the outputs of the task.
Coincidentally, I witnessed their detention before the military Prosecutor and, from them took an explanation. In intelligence information-analytical centre (regional information and analysis center), I bumped into two strangely dressed officers — they were in combat gear, but with empty unloading with no ammunition and no weapons. One of them was Ullmann. I asked:
— Since when does regional information and analysis center officers disarm?
— Yes we... Yes us... here it is...
They told me what happened. What are the team who gave them and what happened afterwards. They, the scouts, the goal was to prevent an enemy breakthrough from the area of operation. The scouts Ullmann was lying in wait on the edge of the forest, and when they came out suspicious car, they ordered the driver to stop. The order was simple military — machine-gun fire in front of the machine. But the car did not stop. Then her and shot with several trunks. I know that under similar circumstances in another district killed two girls. With them in the car sat... Maskhadov. Girls were his cover.
I think that either the driver, or the one who sat next was the fighter, which forced the driver not to stop. Then, when the wrecked car was inspected and reported on the incident in regional information and analysis center, Ullmann was instructed to leave the area. Before leaving, he had wounded! Why would he bandage them, stabbing them promedol, if had intended to finish off the wounded and burn the car? Ullman is then ordered to cover their tracks, and he followed orders...
Why couldn't Edward have nothing to do? Left the wounded enemy can show where and in what part of the scouts left. And this group can be destroyed by fighters.
And then Ullman has caught. My conclusion: there was evidence of criminal negligence and ignorance of the operative person on duty on regional information and analysis center, which gave the scouts contradictory orders. And blame the chaos of war. No luck and Ullman, and killed them people. No one likes to kill innocent people. With this then to live...
Few people understand the horror of war and all its truth. The Colonel really sorry and Ulman, and dead people. But there are people he's not sorry. Exactly.
Chechnya-2. The hunt for Gelayev
It all started with the attack on the Russian frontier in the Tsumada district of Dagestan, a few kilometers from the Georgian border. The bandits suddenly attacked and destroyed a mobile border patrol. To leave it unpunished was impossible. In Zanadu threw the special forces of the Ministry of defence and the Dagestani OMON. I was appointed commander of the operative group. Initially, we had intended to check the presence of militants in a cave and flew there, but land could not — did not allow the depth of the snow; the engines of the helicopter it sucked in the snow, they got water, and the crew feared that the landing will end in a disaster. Had to sit down on the frontier and advancing on their own. For two days we proseries in the mountains, get wet, chilled and fucking did not find...
The militants were discovered in the region of the ridge Course, and began the operation to destroy them. I headed the CPSU (air command post. — "PP"), which was supposed to coordinate the management of all intelligence forces in the area.
In 11 days we flew 36 times. The next day started bombing the way of the intended departure of the gang. Later it turned out that the result was killed by one of the members of the gang, Arab, German citizen Abu Yasin. He killed the captain of the border guards.
Then the day chalk Blizzard. Hid. Traces no. And nobody believes that we will find the militants. Moscow mocked us. The General staff was accused of fantasies:
— How in the area of the Chechen militants?
Imagine: on the eve of the New year two weeks we're in absolutely wild snow-covered mountains and chase the enemy they can't see. My operations duty officer gave us with the helicopter at Khankala from a box of oranges for the holiday. In the box was a note: "we Wish you success in the fight against virtual spirits!"
And on the 20th of December we found them. And again bombed the gorge. Avianation I worked, the benefit of experience was from back in Afghanistan. The first link machines autmobiles was wrong, and then at the helm of the su-25 sat Lieutenant-General Gerbasi, commander of 4 th army air force, veteran of Afghan war, fifty years. He flew up from the Kuban and forty minutes after takeoff, was already working in Tsumada.
The difficulty was that the canyons were too narrow — a width of only a few tens of meters and a depth of about two hundred. And the height above sea level — just over three thousand meters. Because of the narrowness of the gorges nor the direct bombing or kupirovanii — when the plane "lifts" the nose didn't fit. You can apply only dive with an acute angle of attack. In this case it was possible to beat sighting, but it's a big risk for the pilot. One mistake and you are not to withdraw from the attack and crash into a rock. You can drop bombs while on the ceiling height, but then on the sighting of the bombing it is not: the pilot goal is to just not see it.
And then, once in the air, I brought the su-25 from the Board of Mi-8.
In the end, all went well. The bombs caused an avalanche on the slopes, blocking the militants in the valley and cutting off their escape route. Way back they did not have: everything was littered with hundreds of tonnes of snow and ice. No food, frost bitten, they stayed at altitude for several days. When attempts to break causing the fire of our ambushes. Then they were divided into two groups. One should have to go to Georgia for help. Second, with the wounded and frostbitten were left in the gorge. They saw the special forces compresses the ring, and at night went into the next gorge. Every day from the General staff, we require "the ears of the militants." Yelled at us and said that we "eat cereal gift":
Week you surgery, no more!
On 27 December the first group of gunmen ambushed the border guards. Were destroyed four of the bandits. Three "leopards Gelayev" captured. They chose death from bullets, hunger and cold. On the first interrogation the prisoners told the feesbeshniki exactly who we're hunting. But I found out about it three days earlier.
24 December captured captured militants of Chechen, Ali Magomadov. It took the Dagestani OMON. The Chechen was exhausted and severely frostbitten. We spared his life. He was not beaten, provided medical care and treated cigarettes and... tangerines. The very same that was sent to us from Khankala. Why such humanism? This action admitted that the commander of the bandit group, which we drove in Cumade through the gorges, was a Chechen Brigadier General Ruslan Gelayev. We reported this Kvashnin (then chief of the General staff of the Russian armed forces. — "PP").
— You need anything?
And I asked Ka-27. This ship biaxial helicopter that can climb to three thousand meters. Aboard this chopper can drop off the scouts in hang mode right on the top of the ridge and to give the scouts the opportunity to operate top-down, not to climb on the rocks at the bottom.
The helicopter took off from the black sea port of Novorossiysk, but was getting on the Caspian for three days. And we continued to work. And captured and killed fighters and we found the climbing rope, and mountain boots, and gorchakovskii jacket. We just didn't have it. All that was sent to us by the end of the operation, and rigging rope. Due to the lack of equipment we lost six men: they were killed on the rocks, having fallen into the gorge. Radioman fell, and its commander, Lieutenant Alexey Dergunov, he climbed to get it and fell in after him. For me it was a terrible blow: Alex — my graduate. Their bodies collected for a long time, with the help of specialists of EMERCOM of Dagestan. Find the latest radio operator scouts, after only five days after the operation.
And on 28 December, came the denouement. Fighters Volgograd, the unit noticed a small group of fighters going down a cliff on a bunch of automatic belts. Desire for fame prevented the scouts to report on this to the WCP. And they went to capture some guns. The battle had been going on during the day, and I personally had to evacuate the wounded by helicopter, landing the car in the river Andean Koisu.
The Chechens took refuge in the cave. To avoid them on steep slopes was unreal, and the bottom of the canyon they were kept under fire. However, the scouts managed to destroy a few fighters, tense in the maneuver by fire of the mortar. Then distinguished warrant officer Igor Mokrushin. His detachment was laying mines in 30-50 metres from his scouts. Mines on mountainous firing position brought on donkeys to the residents of the surrounding villages. In this battle there appeared a seventh "two hundredth" — in addition to the guys who crashed on the rocks.
The next morning three groups of special forces went to the area of the cave, and there again a fight broke out. Raised in the air, the helicopters of frontier troops, on Board of one of them was me as head of the CPSU. What happened next, I already did.
So the official statement a press-services, in which it was alleged that Gelayev mortally wounded two soldiers of the border troops of the FSB who died of gang bullets in an unequal battle, and then Brigadier General's amputated arm, look a bit unnatural.
Together with Valuevym was destroyed twenty bandits, nine surrendered. The special forces lost seven. For this transaction Alexander Musienko presented to a Star Hero, then beat it on the order "For merits before Fatherland" 2 nd degree, attempted to reward you with a personal weapon, but ultimately was not awarded anything. The commander of group of special troops Alexey Dergunov was awarded the "Golden Star" posthumously. The Colonel said about the weak provision of mining equipment and outfit of our special forces groups, but... only made powerful enemies at the top and in 2006 was forced to resign from the GRU. All war in Russia at that time ended.
Musienko Alexander, Colonel of GRU
