"Ships under the Russian flag are not allowed to enter Europe today, but the rest of the world does, and this is more than 90% of the territory. If Europe does not take our oil, our gas, then we will find other directions. The world is big, the EU is not limited. There will be some costs (for carriers — ed.), but this is not fatal," Gornova believes.
The European Union's ban on sea shipments of Russian oil, although it will lead to costs for domestic shipping companies, but their size does not seem fatal, Anna Gornova, coordinator of the Maritime Policy project at the Center for Strategic Assessments and Forecasts, told RIA Novosti.
The leaders of the European Union reached on Tuesday night a political agreement on the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions, which provides, among other things, the gradual introduction of an embargo on oil imports from Of Russia. The ban will only affect supplies by sea, and the oil coming through the Druzhba pipeline is not subject to restrictions. But, according to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, by the end of the year the EU expects to abandon almost 90% of Russian oil imports.
According to her, now in There are not very many Russian domestic oil tankers exporting cargo abroad. Basically, these are vessels under a foreign flag. "Sabetta takes out six units (tankers — ed.) there. They are on the line to Europe, there, to the Arctic Gate terminal. And so that such tanker mainline transportation, they do not exist in such a volume. It is mainly exported by foreign tankers. Our gas carriers, for example, are all under foreign flags," Gornova said.
The expert notes that now the Sovcomflot shipping company mainly has oil tankers, but they sail under a foreign flag in a bareboat charter (a contract for chartering a vessel without a crew - ed.). "In principle, the scale of the "tragedy" is not so great. For Sovcomflot, of course, these are losses, but over time they will be reoriented," she concluded.
Earlier on Tuesday, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said that the embargo on gas from the Russian Federation will not be discussed as part of the next package of EU sanctions.
