The collection includes the works of the laureates of the prize named after A. Snesarev for 2012-2016. The articles devoted to topical issues of modern geopolitics, military history, and reflect the interests and views of young scientists of Russia. The book is intended for a wide circle of readers interested in military history, geopolitics, the role and place of Russia in the modern world.

In 2015, the Russian scientific world celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birthday of one of the largest Russian military scientists, military geography, geopolitics, officer of the General staff, General Andrew Paton snesareva.

Figure snesareva for many years has been virtually forgotten in the many historical conflicts that have accompanied our country in recent decades.

In fact, the years of stagnation that began with the collapse of the Soviet Union and which lasted, in fact, in the first years of the twenty-first century, led to the fact that today, when Russia is again, as a century ago, rises from his knees, when our country is loudly asserting itself on the world stage, it turns out that to understand and define its place in the new world extremely difficult — we have not formed a vision of the role and place of their country in the new world.

Decades of "reform" of education (both civil and military) has led to the fact that we have not educated the younger generation of geopolitics and geostrategy, able in present conditions to formulate a clear foreign policy concepts and doctrines, definitely fixing the place and role of our country in the modern world.

Going in the context of my Western scientific school Western understanding of the world, we just excuse and justify for most of my existence in this world: almost no one remembers the sacrifice of the Russian people in the First world, nor, especially, in the Second world war. To us all these years was imposed image of the subject, the same Nazi Germany that plunged the world into chaos. Unfortunately, we do not have their own understanding and sense of the world, having its own geopolitical school (because all the education in the field of geopolitics was West), was not able to clearly explain the role and place of Russia in the modern world, to clearly define its foreign policy priorities, foreign policy, conditions of use of military force.

Teaching experience in higher educational institutions, as well as the results of own long-term studies show that this is no accident. From the beginning everything about geopolitics as a science in our country were treated almost exclusively from a Western point of view. Geopolitical concepts were studied, mainly from the works of Mackinder and Haushofer ideologues enemies of our country. We recognize and acknowledge one of the leading roles in modern geopolitics for Brzezinski and Kissinger and not rely on the fundamental work of the sons of the Fatherland.

It so happened that today we almost don't remember any work of P. A. Florensky or N.M. Przewalski or N.I. Danilevsky and D. A. Miliutin.

The work of A. Snesarev also came under oblivion. And this is, perhaps, not accidental. After all, most of his work was related to the study of geo-strategy, the role and importance of the British threat to the safe and successful development of the Russian Empire. He was one of the first to have shown that Britain is the main and most insidious enemy of our country.

History fully confirmed the basic provisions of A. Snesarev: the Russo-Japanese war, the First and the Second world war, its root cause are the machinations of the British crown, her attempts to adjust a new world for themselves, to withdraw from the arena of the key players, representing a threat to the global dominance of London.

In addition, one should remember that the Russian military theorists: E. E. Messner, A. E. Ericina (Vandam), A. Snesarev, A. A. Svechin, Frunze formed the basis of a qualitatively new understanding of the nature of war. Thanks to them, in many respects, visionary works during the great Patriotic war was formed by a successful guerrilla movement, and today it is the understanding of such concepts as "irregular war" or "hybrid threat".

Unfortunately, the author himself had to go through a system of military preparation in which military-theoretical achievements of Russian scientists was addressed only to a small degree. Can Express their own opinion (and everyone is free to disagree with him) — we have too many paid attention to the assessment of their military experience obtained in the course of the great Patriotic war (and, as a rule, already during the successful years and not in the first, most difficult period of the war), and not enough on assessing the experience of our enemy (especially in terms of operational implementation in military art novelties weapons and military equipment). We are actually in the 50 years since the victory in the great Patriotic war is not actively interested in the experience gained in numerous local and regional conflicts, our enemies.

Almost never we summarized our own experience.

Up to the present time are not broad and are not fully investigated the events in Hungary in 1956, Czechoslovakia in 1968, but largely was then implemented scenario of those "velvet revolutions", about which so much is said and written.

We examine the experience of those years in more detail, introduce something in the practices of the KGB and the Ministry of defense of the USSR (especially in terms of cooperation in the framework of the allied Warsaw Pact), it is possible that the tragic events of 80 years in Poland, the GDR and other socialist States, which led to the collapse of the socialist system, perhaps it would prevent.

Much of the experience of military action Limited contingent of Soviet troops in the DRA (especially in terms of application of forces and means of special purpose) also remains to the end not studied or generalized, and most importantly, is not practically introduced in practice of training of military specialists, nor in the guidance documents of the army.

About experience restore constitutional order in the Chechen Republic today is not accepted to remember (but it was invaluable experience in operations in mountainous terrain and in urban conditions), although the essence and nature of the present armed groups in Syria are broadly similar with similar groups in the North Caucasus.

An attempt to somehow influence the situation and try to change it, and it is our initiative of organizing of the contest of scientific-practical works in the field of geopolitics and military security in the name of Andrey Evgenyevich snesareva.

In fact, the objective of the contest is well reflected in the developed by us the terms of the competition: to promote the development of aspirations and motivation of young scientists to the study of the creative heritage of Russian scientists in the field of geo-strategy, geopolitics and military geography.

Why we decided to name the contest Andrew Paton snesareva? This is largely, of course, a personal decision. However, the motivation was the fact that it is one of the least politicized figures. Snesarev largely remained (and remains now) in the side from the ardent political storms, being a patriot of his country, without seeking to occupy a key place in history. And so the story itself determines who to cover with oblivion, and the memory of who to leave in centuries... and, of course, is the role and importance of the relatives of your father, has kept the memory of his ancestor. Swept her through the years of adversity and oblivion. Unfortunately, many abandoned their relatives in the difficult years of unfair repression is considered the most appropriate for their own safe future, and Snesareva thought otherwise, and kept the memory and archives of the great scientist...

Today we present to the readers a collection of works by winners of competition named after Andrei Evgenievich Snesarev held us for the past five years.

Over the years the competition has passed its way from formation to a recognized in the scientific community event that provides young scientists the opportunity to speak and present their own academic level to the public.

The emergence of competition is well illustrated by the level of scientific works, which were presented at the competition over the years. All members of the competition Commission indicate a rise in the scientific level of the works on the growing importance of the brought-up problems.

Of course, it is necessary to note the selfless work of the competition Commission, which from the moment of creation and throughout all five years of operation, made up of prominent military scientists, who know the legacy of A. Snesarev: major-General I. S. Danilenko, Colonel Savinkin, A. E. Belozerov and V. K.

According to the rules of the contest, we present four awards annually, and in some years (2014) the competition was presented more than 50 scientific papers! So the Commission had to work seriously in order to select the really important work.

It should be noted very high activity in the contest on the part of cadets of military educational institutions of the Ministry of defence of the Russian Federation. As a rule, these form the backbone of the contest works for all five years of the competition.

And it's especially nice to us, the founders of the competition and members of the competition Commission, because that is the task we set ourselves and to motivate young scientists and students of military schools to the study of the domestic military-scientific heritage in the field of geopolitics and geostrategy, so that today their actions clearly understand where our allies are, and where opponents to we relied in decision-making not on the works of our opponents, which in Russia is often simply no place, and the works of our compatriots, which centuries have proved the validity and scientific credibility of many of the results obtained.

I hope that this compendium of five-year anniversary of the competition named after Andrei Evgenievich Snesarev, will be only the first milestone in the Renaissance of geopolitics, the formation of a new vision for the future of Russia as a great country that determines the fate of the world in the twenty-first century.
