ZDF (Germany): the Russian space program — where are you going?
Material posted : Administrator Publication date: 15-04-2019

Russia wants to become an independent nation in international space research. But its former advantages in space little left, says the German TV channel ZDF. The reasons are many — from lack of funding to corruption. However, the new management of Roskosmos intends to restore order in the industry, do not decline cooperation with other countries.

Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin 58 years ago became the first man to conquer space and launched the era of managed space flight. Among the Russian population there is a nostalgia, but also pride: we are a space nation. Therefore, Moscow watched with some envy at Israel on Thursday evening — on the eve of one of the most favorite holidays of Russians, the day of cosmonautics 12 April, Israel was to celebrate the landing of the Israeli probe "Genesis" on the moon. Although this came to nothing, because the module crashed, but the competition with the Middle East is already evident.

And from former Russian superiority over other Nations today, little remains. The reasons are varied. For a long time in research in the field of space invested insufficient funds, which led to a gap in the field of basic research, technology and development. Low salaries have led to the fact that only a few young people were interested in this area. Aging of staff is a logical consequence. In addition, the role played by the bloated bureaucracy, which delayed a necessary and important decisions, and corruption.

The new head of the Roscosmos wants to clean

Prosecutor General Yury Chaika said the other day that in just one last year in the enterprises of the Russian space Agency was abducted more than 1.6 billion rubles. Not to mention the fact that out of the total allocation of 500 billion rubles was sold only a little over 80 %.

With such a mountain of problems faced Dmitry Rogozin, when in may 2018, has been appointed new head of "Roskosmos". Former Deputy Prime Minister did not hesitate and began clearing. He already had experience in the construction of the new Vostochny cosmodrome in the far East. Through his determined and tough approach was eliminated significant delays in construction, and 28 April 2016 finally launched the first rocket in the presence of the head of the Kremlin Vladimir Putin.

On the front pages of Newspapers was in the number of personnel changes in the missile and space concerns "Energia" and "Khrunichev", was changed investment policy, the "Roscosmos" has reduced staff, focusing on recruiting new, active people. With regard to the concept, then, of course, in the first months of its implementation have progressed unevenly.

The space program alone does not raise

What stands today in front of "Rosatom"? Dmitry Rogozin does not hide the ambitious new targets set by his Department. In the near future to begin construction of the second turn of the cosmodrome "East". Finally, the challenge is to free ourselves from dependence on the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and have an own platform for the launch of heavy missiles "Angara".

In parallel, work is underway on new rockets and spacecraft "Federation". The latter should replace the "Unions" and "Progress" and become the vehicle for repeated use. For the first test have more than three years.

Proceeds also on international cooperation, because manned space flight and the future of space exploration at the present time to promote not. Specifically we are talking about the continuation of the joint use of the international space station ISS since the U.S. space Agency after 2024, this does not exclude a more active commercial use.

This should take into account the fact that probably already this year monopolized the position of Russia in the delivery of astronauts to the ISS will come to an end. "Space ex" (SpaceX) and Boeing (Boeing) has developed the spacecraft, which in the future will need to deliver NASA astronauts to the ISS.

Landing on Mars is scheduled for March 2021

Together with the European space Agency (ESA) concentrate efforts on the project "Eczemas", under which in July 2020, will be launched on the device TGO. If all goes well, the module in March 2021 will land on the surface of Mars. With the help of specially developed ESA should be investigated soil layers of Mars and searched for possible traces of life. But managed to fly to the red planet will take a lot of time.

Real intermediate stage in preparation for these flights is considered our satellite. For this purpose, 2024 and 2025 is scheduled to launch orbital devices "Moon-26" and "Luna-27". In addition, on 19 March in Moscow began a long experiment to simulate missions to the moon, which also involved German center for air and space forces. Long-term plans include use of the moon as a hub for flights to Mars, it is planned location of the managed stations for prolonged stay.

But about the race — who first will again send humans to the moon, nobody wants to say no. Although when President Vladimir Putin speaks at the Day of cosmonautics at the gala concert "First in space" in Moscow, and pays tribute not only to Yuri Gagarin, some Russians definitely have a dream that this will be their compatriot.
