Brzezinski offered to split the Crimea between Russia and Ukraine
A former adviser to the U.S. President for national security recalled how Nikita Khrushchev transferred the Peninsula under the control of Ukraine during the Soviet era, and also noted that one of the determining factors in the Crimea have always been Russians and Russian armed forces, reports Zn.ua.

Thus Ukraine, in his words, has "their items" in the Crimea.
"And there is a third element that I forgot, but very important, is the Crimean Tatars. They are an important local element," said Brzezinski, noting that a compromise is possible, given these three factors, they are: Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar and Russian.

"We are not talking about the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine fully, as well as there can be no question of returning Crimea to Russia as a whole. I think over time it is possible to reach a political solution, according to which Crimea will be returned in some way on the basis of recognition and accounting of the existence of those three elements," – says the analyst.

But now this scenario, according to Brzezinski, to realize unrealistic, but in the future it will be the only possible one.

Note that in Russia do not believe that there is any "problem of Crimea". In particular, foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that "Crimea – the Crimea – the territory of the Russian Federation".

Clearly spoken on this issue and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin:

"As for Crimea, the question is, we believe, is closed permanently. This is a historic decision of the people living in the Crimea, and no discussions about it with anyone in Russia to not be", – he declared in may 2016.

March 16, 2014 in Crimea held a referendum on the status of autonomy, more 96% of participants who were in favour of joining region in Russia. 21 March the President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed the law on ratification of the agreement on joining of the Crimea and Sevastopol a part of Russia.
