In February media information war against Libya
Material posted: Publication date: 24-03-2011

After a pause taken by the Libyan media in the period 17-20 February, due to the fact that the country's leadership analyzed the data and determined course of action. The first who responded to the West on the flow of reproaches and accusations of "massacres of the civilian population", was the son of the leader of the revolution, Saif al Islam. His appearance on TV in the night from 19th to 20th February was a big surprise, if only because many consider him the successor of his father and a supporter of reforms in the country.

In his speech, which lasted about 45 minutes he outlined the principal line of the country's leadership, which, as subsequent events showed, the Libyan leadership, in General, adheres to this day.

The main thing in his speech is the references about foreign intervention and inciting insurrection and that in any case his father is not going anywhere. In addition, the rebels were invited, in fact, an amicable solution in exchange for a number of concessions and reforms. "...We are entering a period of Second-Dzhamahirii,... we will discuss and adopt new, modern laws, we will adopt the Constitution of the country..." - said S. al-Islam, however, is not forgetting and "Pro stick" for those who don't obey.

Despite a noticeable excitement C. al-Islam, looked quite convincing, and his performance was the prologue to a short appearance of his father in the broadcast channel "Jamahiriya" the night of 21 February. Holding over his head an umbrella, that was symbolic, Gaddafi noticed that is in any, nor in Venezuela and in Tripoli and not going to leave.

Meanwhile, the information war against Libya was gaining momentum and by the third day of the conflict has defined the main "liars" on the front of the media confrontation.

The championship of lies and innuendo, firmly took the Qatari "al–Jazeera". Second place will get Pro-us Iraqi channel "al Arabiya". For the sake of justice to notice, his reports were imbued with such hatred of Tripoli, and reporters so unceremoniously told live, what and how to say interviewee: it, "Jazeera" simply broadcasts on behalf of Gaddafi. The third place was divided between another brainchild of the Pentagon channel "al Hurra" and "good old British" BBC. The rest of the media, and regional and world lost "in the pile", basically repeating the summary of the "al Jazeera" and "al Arabiya".

To them, to the full extent, should be attributed to the Russian media, who began to say something "away" after the first two weeks of the crisis, when it became clear that Tripoli will resist. Especially because some bearded faces, flashing on the screens with images of desert, painfully reminded of heroes reporting from the frontlines of the wars in Chechnya and reports about the "anti-terrorist" operations in Dagestan. "Oops!!!...".

Briefly consider the mechanism of aggression against Libya by the example of television. It consists of several major factors. The first is – emotionally expressive. Expressed specifically in drama art and music screen savers news and analytical programs. This is the colorful collages of flags, faces, protesting facial expressions and gestures, necessarily – the presence of women and children. And all this against the backdrop of dramatic or tragic music with the formation of semantic saver – slogan, such as "Libya – in the fire of revolt". It serves to prepare the perception of the viewer of the basic information material in the right context.

Second - textured-situational. Is a specific form of presenting visual and text material. Is expressed in well-defined angles of filming, the variety of panoramas, objects and subjects of stories. Creates the illusion of a much larger number of people than really are. Mandatory rotation of statics and dynamics images - injected frames running figures, some activities interspersed close-UPS of suffering or injured people. In this deliberately distorted reality is impossible or extremely difficult to link the location to the city, street, time, number. Used for Assembly and deliberate replication, and migration of reports from their reprieve from reality for two or three days. For example, AZ Zawiya was finally liberated from the terrorists to March 6. The Libyan mass media 7 th day showed a report from downtown. "Jazeera" reported "supposedly liberated city" of the 9th and was finally confirmed this fact on March 10. Also exactly one week showed the rebels in the arch with the inscription – "Welcome to RAS Lanuf" - as proof that the city is in the hands of the rebels. Meanwhile – this arch stands at the entrance to the residential town of workers of the oil refining complex in RAS Lanuf – and not in the city itself.

The third factor – disinformation-contextual. Can be formulated as "lie more and more often." Here and the announcement of a "barbaric bombing of the seaport in Misde" on the third day of the crisis (Misda is a city deep in the Hamad desert South-West of Tripoli), and numerous calls from "witnesses" from the field.

I heard the excited voice of such eye-witness of that broadcast about the bombing of the districts of Souq al Jumaa and Fashlum in Tripoli, just passing at the time of reporting in these areas. Here and all kinds of cards with images of who, what city or area monitors, and an interview that "...here in my eyes killed an entire village of civilians...", or, "...I saw the bombed city, which houses the hospital...". Must understand that was bombed: a city, hospital?

All of the above succeeded without exception, all the world's media, except the Chinese, in fact local, and maybe Latin American – their author wasn't looking. In this case, none of these media, never for all time of the conflict never showed ANY DEAD OR WOUNDED civilian residents of Libya. Neither in the West nor in the East! Did not show any destruction of civilian object, hospitals, schools or public buildings. A single object of the civil infrastructure, in addition to the burning (one) oil tank in RAS Lanuf, according to undermined Tripoli retreating bandits. Any frame hitting civilian targets! Nothing of what so inspired lying "Jazeera" and "al Arabiya" and, on the basis of what the EU and NATO make their own conclusions about the situation in the country.

As, however, it was not mentioned that Mustafa Abd El Jalil, Nuri Mesmari, Shalgham and other senior officials, suddenly become revolutionaries, all of them shortly before the events of February were removed from their posts and were in fact under investigation on charges of corruption, taking bribes and embezzlement.

What a terrible transformation has occurred to the channel "al Jazeera", once famed for its impartial and professional coverage of events in Iraq, is not included in this article. This fact, as well as what actually is behind the background of the rebellion in Libya, what is happening now in the Arab world, why Qatar is sometimes called the "second Israel", who financed Arab media and teach them news anchors, and journalists whose subjects they are, who their parents are and what they are "famous", will be the subject of detailed lighting on the new global Libyan TV channel "al Mukhit" (the Ocean) – it broadcasts in several languages in the whole world will be the answer to the Qatari and other liars. Libya is preparing a counter-attack on the information front, and according to some reports, some dirt on public figures and their media will be presented abound.

While Libyan media quite correctly reflect the attack on the consciousness of their own people and sometimes even burst out, bringing the truth to listeners and viewers of the planet. Consider the basic methods of information warfare by the Libyan media unleashed against the country by the war in the air.

First – objectively–the actual. Ironically, the best antidote to lies and fabrications, turned out to be true. Journalists of the local media interviewed the residents, asking everyone, what's today's date, month and time? Then, matching reports "Jazeera" with supposedly the same place at the same time, people saw that no one bombed, the streets don't shoot and absolutely nothing of what is shown to the whole world. Adhering to the principle of truth-telling, backed by such plain trick, the Libyans managed to avoid accusations of fraud and falsification of the facts that is present in abundance in the Western and some Arab media. This, incidentally, is not allowed to resort to jamming the broadcast of almost all foreign media, in addition to the same "Jazeera", which is choked at its fundamental frequency, but subsequently allowed to broadcast on a backup, because in Libya it is all the same except "a lying dog", almost no one calls.

The second factor is ideological. What is lacking in contemporary Russia, do not forget and do not cancel in Libya. Propaganda political system, values of Libyan society, historical examples of anti-colonial past of the country, the economic and social achievements – all this has been repeatedly reinforced, but did not take more than 30% of airtime. The weight was shifted in favor of the analytical programmes, round tables with participation of prominent political scientists, public figures, religious scholars, tribal representatives and youth organizations. Among the innovations include the beginning of formation in the Outlook of the Libyan society of the concept of "mono Libyan community of people, living in a single and United country". This is perhaps the first serious attempt of the authorities to change the tribal consciousness of the majority population. In addition, the focus of reports about the rebellious regions were not characterized by hostility, in spite of outright lies, "al Jazeera," Libyan media announcers took calls themselves called up and Misurata and Benghazi, live dealing with real eyewitnesses to the events.

The third factor – concentric-network. Is expressed in the massing of information efforts on all media at certain times ("Prime time"). All channels – Jamahiriya, Ash Shababi (Youth channel) and the Ar Riyadiya (Sport news channel) agreed to convey the basic information, the treatment of the country's leadership, political, local and international news, followed by separation of reporting on the country, with coverage of what is happening in different parts of the country, contrasting the facts in real time false reports from abroad.

Almost completely closing the Internet, the Libyan authorities managed to stop the flood of inflammatory and false information messages. Costs of this decision paid off public tranquility and blocking of communication channels and the coordination of the actions of extremists.

A few words about the attitude of the Libyan media to Russia. It should be noted that the General tone of Russian broadcasts and reports about Libya in Tripoli naturally noticed, but did not respond. Left without official comment passionate passages about "Gaddafi is a political corpse" (as they say here, wait and see, anyway, the next elections he will get), and Decree No. 1970 on the implementation of measures for the implementation of the UN Resolution. The first official mention of Russia in connection with situation refers to the end of February and is associated with the information that "...the Russian satellites to monitor the situation in the country and data is not confirm the facts of the bombing of the rebel territories...". Shortly thereafter, on March 2, speaking before journalists Gaddafi urged Russian companies (including Chinese, Turkish and Brazilian) to come to Libya and take the place of Western in the oil and gas sector of the country. The first Russian journalists arriving in Tripoli since the beginning of the conflict was the group of channel Russia Today. She did some fairly objective reports on the stop in the capital of the country, and was admitted M. al Gaddafi. Journalists VGTRK and channel 1, why it appeared and in Benghazi and on the border with Tunisia, but not in Tripoli. The information content and tone of their stories I can not judge, but they differed little from their Western counterparts. In General, assessing the information field of Russia – Libya these days, you can conclude that restrained and checked the position of the Libyans, predpochla not to comment on the statements and actions of the Russian side on the one hand, and generally Pro-Western stance of our media with a gradual alignment of accents as the displacement of the rebels to the East of the country. This was also evident for changes in phraseology, and on the findings of journalists and analysts. The impact on the change of emphasis in the official media and has had numerous notes of eyewitnesses, including, evacuated from Libya Russians, published on the Internet.

With the arrival of the first foreign journalists (C n EN, Russia Today) in Tripoli, Libya's information blockade has given even greater crack. Objective and balanced position of the leadership of the Libyan media, which allowed guests the opportunity to see everything with your own eyes and freely communicate with citizens of the country, did their job – the tone of analyst reports and news reports of some foreign media, March 10 has changed significantly. It can be stated that Libyan mass media were given an organized resistance waged against the country of the company lies and disinformation and won the first stage of information warfare. Bet on truthful coverage of events and the maximum possible, in this situation, openness is justified. As for "al Jazeera", and some other news channels, this story may end with the bankruptcy information.
