Christmas blow Mamimo. The defense Ministry it is time to recall the experience of the Soviet army
Material posted: Publication date: 06-01-2018
Although the Ministry of defense and is silent about the damage to the aircraft when the new year the bombardment of the airfield Hamim loss in killed new year's eve it is still recognized. However, the photos of damaged su-24 is already in the Network. Try to understand how the firing of small forces could cause damage to the aircraft. And whether it was possible to avoid it.

31 December 2017 at the airfield Hamim struck a combined blow of rockets and mortars militants. The shells, as has happened many times, was hit by Shell, but the mortar mine it I couldn't stop it — too specific goal with very specific trajectory. According to the official data of the Ministry of defence, and in the end killed two of our soldiers, a number were injured.

Noteworthy strange wording: "31 December 2017 with the onset of night time airfield Hamim has undergone a sudden mortar attack". In the army it is customary to specify the attack time, but not here. Apparently, no one knows. The fact that the New year Syrian military, and maybe ours, Mamimi meet so (video last year):

It is clear that such shooting with combat weapons as Christmas crackers to hear a series of not very loud rounds of 82-mm mortars hard. There's even the launch of "V-2" can be skipped, not that such trifles. Accordingly, the response could also be taken once the holiday turmoil. From the above video certainly was no secret to the militants. Their commanders would be fools, if, having heard about how on the basis to celebrate the New year, the war would try to take advantage of it and strike just in time for the "salute".

The General picture is clear. Soviet 82-mm mortar disassembled into parts for 20 pounds, transferred to four people, the fifth drags the ammunition. These people were the GPS coordinates of the clusters of people and vehicles on Mamimi. You can get them, for example, in satellite photo (public) or with the help of your man in the Syrian staff Mamima, but preferably combining both. New year's eve diversionno-prospecting group seeps in the area Mamima. Firework and "firing" firing at the Russian base radar "the Zoo" — it is responsible for detecting firing mortars next to her — probably won't manage to quickly find a point of shooting. A trained crew can produce from 25 min per minute. Enough to make a rustle. Unclear details: how many still planes managed to damage.

"Kommersant" habitually opposed to the official version — in addition to the deaths of two people and destroyed seven planes of the Russian space forces. Defense, of course, denies everything. To believe there can neither the one nor the other. Moreover, anonymous sources from the Ministry of defence reported damage to one of the su-24 and one helicopter. Finally, pictures of the damaged su-24 in the Network, and even the military is not trying to deny their truth.

The data of Kommersant, too, often differ from reality, but in the other direction. They loss our side the best possible way overestimated, the requirements of common sense to abide by the generally optional. To imagine the destruction from seven planes from mortar shelling in the conditions Mamima quite difficult. Mortar come from 30 years maybe this is only in the mass use, and raiding EN masse to use them can not, because in such groups a few people. How much was lost of the aircraft — difficult to understand, but just to say that seven destroyed.

As mentioned both parties can believe only very naive people, take a look at the available photo. In the first photo the damage of the su-24 with Jamima did not like the marks from mortar shells. take a Look at this stabilizer: tear and bent to the side pieces of skin, but no holes at all. Mina Soviet 82-mm mortar rounds (he and his copies — the main artillery of fighters) the explosion produces 400 to 600 fragments. Such a hit in the tail and the whole plane would be in the holes, which clearly is not. What in the photo?

It is most similar to the collision of two su-24 with each other — one wing "walked" on the tail of another. Why two su-24, not this specific with a different type of plane? The fact that the wing of the su-24 is located at the same height as the stabilizers, but other planes Mamima the height of the wings is different. As the wing of one car collided with another stabilizer? For example, if the night RAID was a risk of fire one of the damaged vehicles, and others began to drive away to the side, as it was at the Kabul airport in 1989.

The second photo shows damage to the hydraulic system of the su-24, from which pours liquid. Next second a small trace of the fragment. Other nearby no — this happens when a couple crazy especially large pieces brought on all the others (from the point of bursting mines, some of them can fly 60 meters). Damage "on the decline" — fluid from the hydraulic system still flows, although the picture morning, while the shelling was at night. That is, the hole was quite small.

That explosion was far, follows from the fact that under su-24 in the photo hanging bombs. It is obvious that the holes in the hydraulic system to hang bombs on the plane no one would — he's not going to job. That is, the machine in the new year's eve and stood with bombs under the belly, doing what is popularly called the "death wait". If not for the extremely low targeting militants, victims and destructions under such orders at the airport would be many, many more.

At the close bomb hits would be that writing had not seven damaged vehicles, but of much larger problems. Typical FAB-250 (and under the su-24 they hung not just one) pierced the armor of a BMP at a distance of over fifty metres. Would be enough to cripple quite a lot of equipment and destroy the plane in the photo.

So, from the couple of pictures it shows that the damage is not likely from mines and some from quite far exploding fragmentation munitions. And it follows that the Hamim was on the razor's edge: drop mine a little closer — it would be much worse.

Yet these photos tell us that we are on the ground in a combat situation the planes are off in extremely dangerous during the firing configuration. Maybe this is normal, maybe the military all over the world the norm is to keep the aircraft in a suicide threat?

Soviet heroes even remember the Chinese — not us

In 1938, nine Soviet bombers DB-3-not sent to war in China. Taking advantage of the lack of Soviet fighter pilots, night training, the Japanese constantly bombed an airfield in Chengdu, where was this nine. As says one of the pilots of the squadron, bombed by the Japanese in groups of 45 aircraft and more, "precisely, well-lit [light bombs]" sites. They used are not mine, weighing 3.2 kg, as the militants in Syria, and bombs weighing up to half a ton. "It was certainly impressive — at the end of the RAID the airfield resembled a lunar landscape: a solid funnel" — sums up the veteran.

But neither two nor one person from these raids the crews of the DB-3 is not lost. And visible damage on the aircraft had. All because the squadron commander Kulishenko was a genius commander. According to the witness of events, "the real damage from these bombings usually were small. We have always placed the aircraft outside the airport — no closer than a hundred meters from the boundary of the airfield, the maximum dispersing of the terrain, to even the series bombs could not cover at a time more than one or two machines, and carefully hiding camouflage nets and other camouflage; not only that — dragged the night on a special a wooden boardwalk in a swampy place where the Japanese do not have thought to look for them".

The airfield Hamim, a typical satellite photos. This is in 1938, it was clear that the aircraft on the airfield need to keep dispersed, disguised, and every night move to where they don't stand in the afternoon. Today, as we have seen, such deep knowledge is not always available to the leadership of the Russian VKS.

Look, how interesting: it turns out that 80 years ago people knew that if the airfield exposed to enemy attacks, then it is not necessary to store the aircraft with mounted bombs. The veteran argues that to reduce the likelihood of loss of materiel with SB-3, "even poured fuel" just in case, if a random bomb will fall next. The question arises: why things that are obvious in 1938, today there are knowledge, inaccessible to those who stage crashes with Mamimi?

Well, frankly, not all people, and then he realized that the aircraft cannot be built in rows, as is done in Hamima. The Japanese, for example, a service carried was disorderly. It's over nine DB-3 headed Kulishenko them and punished. 3 Oct 1938 they attacked standing on the Ticker in a number of Japanese aircraft on the airfield near Hankou. The Japanese word ASU Sakai Saburo, who has got into this bombing:

"Most of the 200 army and naval bombers, lined up wing to wing on the long taxiways, now burned. High columns of flame rose when the fuel tanks exploded in the air flying a huge cloud of smoke. Those planes that had not yet burned, was riddled with shards of broken tanks jets gushing fuel. The fire was spread from plane to plane, devouring greed fuel... [Russian] base inflicted tremendous damage. Almost all of our planes either burned down or were broken. The base commander lost his left arm, several of his officers, many pilots, technicians and mechanics were either dead or injured".

According to conservative estimates, more than a hundred Japanese died. When in December 1941 the Japanese attacked pearl Harbor, defended by hundreds of planes and antiaircraft guns, has lost several times fewer aircraft and considerably less people than the destroyed one nine headed by squadron commander Kulishenko.

On 22 June 1941 about this valuable experience no one in the Soviet aviation and had no idea. It is in China Kulishenko is a folk hero, after whom composed songs and whose grave is visited every year by tens of thousands of people. And on June 22, our planes were in a row, neocryte and uncloaked, "hmelnitski", exactly the same as the Japanese counterparts in Hankou.

But those who survived raising under a hail of German bombs pretty quickly came to the same conclusions as the squadron commander Kulishenko before any of the bombs. They immediately began to make earthen revetments (shelter with overlapping and masking the top). The bombs were kept in a separate rovikah and never left hanging on the aircraft for the night. Massively built false airfields with artfully cut and painted plywood replicas of Soviet aircraft, antiaircraft guns and even one or two shooting guns defense, so the Germans did not doubt the authenticity of the scenery.

The results are known: about the airfields the Germans attacked more often present, and the loss of the airfields for the rest of the war was less than one day on June 22. In the protection of aircraft of the Soviet air force has reached such a mastery that the Germans did not see their emphasis:

"Pilots of German transport planes, not noticing the caponiers Soviet fighters, free to go through our airfield alone, and in droves. Seeing the enemy, we flew up and attacked him without turning to climb. Loaded with food packages, Ju.52 sometimes fell close to our dining room. In these cases, canned meat, cigarettes, biscuits instantly replenish our warehouses." (V. Lavrinenkov, 9th GIAP.)

What happened to us?

The reader has already caught a scheme in which we have mastered combat experience — or rather, the lack of both schema and this development. In our military academies teach anything good, not military history. Rare their graduate knows the name of the organizer of the most effective RAID on the airfield in the history of our country (the same Kulishenko). It is not in detail camouflage and protective work on the airfields of the Second world. Many of the officers of the modern air force think: "Well, we are not fools, we have sky in the castle, everything is under control". No one told them to military school in June of 1941, the people also sincerely believed himself to be not the fools "all grab".

This circuit has worked in our history many times. 8 Oct 1950, relax to the peaceful service of the air force at the airfield Dry River, too, kept his car "in a line along the runway" uncovered, not diked. This is despite the fact that they were transferred to this area after the Americans shot down in the far East Soviet aircraft (the crew died). Flew two American F-80 and the car shot to hell. Officially, the losses in men were not — all had dinner.

However, "in the list of monuments of the Khasan district of Primorsky Krai under the number 106 means "brotherly grave of the nameless pilots who died in the reflection of American bombers in 1950". The tomb is located near the village of Transportation, the former territory of the military camp Dry River."

According to MO, was damaged six Soviet aircraft, one is lost forever. But the pilot is attacked by the Americans 821 IAP V. N. Zabelin says: "Official reports and what I have seen, differ somewhat. It is believed that one plane exploded and another six aircraft were severely damaged. In fact, it was damaged more than 20 aircraft. Some of them then failed to fix, but about a dozen had to be written off". As we can see, deadweight loss was ten times greater than said MOE. In the end, "the chief 821 regiment headquarters was charged for that he, in violation of the instructions, allowed packageline placement of aircraft on Parking".

Since 1950, the country was ruled by Stalin, a mess on a particular airfield has had considerable geopolitical consequences. For him, lathered his head, not only the chief of staff, but also by the United States. If Dry the River the Secretary General categorically forbidden to place of Soviet military specialists on the front line, from October 25, 1950, Soviet pilots of the 64th fighter air corps arrived in Korea. There they shot down many American planes. Once it so happened that in the winter–spring 1951, Korea recaptured Pyongyang and for a short time took Seoul.

The staffs never change

Do not think that pink 1950 was enough to remember how to obvalivat and mask the planes on the ground. To paraphrase Hegel, military history only teaches us that in military schools she normally never teach. Therefore every war many in the military perceived as communal winter.

Almost the entire Afghan war on the ground, despite the attacks of the enemy, normal embankment or caponiers were rare. In 1989, a fire literally two jet shells ("Shells") lit eight su-25, which burned to the ground. According to the witness of fire, "the next group of su-25 was immediately placed at the other end of the airfield, was prepared by the individual diking for these aircraft. For the six months to the end of hostilities of science went in store".

Interestingly, all of the 1990s there was an anomaly. Instead of immediately forget the Afghan "science", as did our air force with experience shelter aircraft after world war II, the embankment on the ground is a very did in the "line" planes tried to put. As noted by Mikhail Viktorovich Pavlov, the pilot 461 th attack aviation regiment, bombs in the 1990s was hung just before the departure — at the last minute when the pilot finally set the task.

Of course, Syria is a strange, anomalous state of our airfields had to pass. On Mamima the beginning there was no embankment aircraft. From the very beginning stood in groups in the "lipeckij". On the satellite photos on them having never seen camouflage nets.

Of course — whom they fear? Well, except that Americans, both on a Dry River. Or militants in Afghanistan in 1989. Of course, such insignificant reasons could not coerce the user to Mamimi for more than two years to make at least a rudimentary embankment. Or at least not to suspend the bomb to the aircraft in advance, and to do it before a combat mission.

Not to say that the immunity to combat experience peculiar to only our air force. This, of course, a common property of the armed forces (in fairness, not just them). As noted on this occasion the national expert in the field "ground" fortifications, "in 94-96 years the trenches, we were taught the Chechens, and only in August 2000, we began to slowly take of trench art. But nothing ended this war, and once again we druzhnenko have forgotten how to dig trenches".
