According to the publication Politico, in 2014 within the program "Study of warfare the new generation in Russia" the us military has carried out several dozen missions in the area of combat actions in southeastern Ukraine, to study the tactics of the militia of the unrecognized republics of the Donbass and their weapons.
The coordinator of this program is Lieutenant General of the U.S. Army Herbert McMaster. He heads the Center for the integration of the US army and in this capacity is the development strategy of the Army until 2025. The study of the Ukrainian conflict, the Pentagon plans to prepare and submit for consideration by the authorities recommendations for the revision of the principles of warfare. The ultimate goal of the program, according to the publication, is to prepare the U.S. army for a possible conflict with Russia.
"While our army has been conducting operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, Russia studied American capabilities and vulnerabilities, and has embarked on an ambitious and largely successful modernization," the General said McMaster during his speech at the meeting of the Committee of the Senate armed services Committee last week. "In Ukraine, for example, the combination of unmanned aerial systems and advanced electronic warfare systems has shown a high degree of efficiency," he said. As the General said, during the conflict in southeastern Ukraine Russia has supplied the army of the unrecognized republics tanks, artillery, anti-tank weapons and drones that took out the navigation system and radio communications and demonstrated a high degree of efficiency.
The U.S. military, according to Politico, fear that Russia has a military advantage in key areas and the US army not prepared for a possible clash with the Russian army. So light armored vehicles, which relied on Americans during its recent military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, has become vulnerable to the latest Russian weapons and tanks T-90, which in the U.S. was considered obsolete, has proved very effective and "substantially impervious to anti-tank missiles". Especially Herbert McMaster noted the effectiveness of the Russian artillery: "Russia has many missile and anti-aircraft missile complexes, which have become more deadly than counterparts in the U.S. army".
Of particular concern, the newspaper notes, among the American military has caused method used by Moscow to undermine the political institutions of power, the so-called "hybrid warfare" — a combination of military power with hidden efforts to undermine the government of the enemy. Also the Pentagon noted the increased efficiency of the Russian aviation, which has been demonstrated in Syria and the entrance of recent incidents where Russian planes flew near U.S. ships in the Baltic sea, ignoring the warnings.
As writes the edition, the military experts call the program of General McMaster "the most ambitious revision since the collapse of the USSR." It would subsequently be submitted to the US authorities and allies, and on the basis of its findings, expected to be revised to develop new weapons and training of the American military. The first military exercise that will take into account the recommendations of Herbert McMaster, will be held in June this year in Poland.
Politico notes that the last time this study was conducted after the Yom Kippur War between Israel and Syria with Egypt, which was supported by the USSR. After the conflict, the U.S. military came to the conclusion that the principles of war changed and sent to the middle East specialists.
