"Bosnian diary" Igor G.
Material posted: Publication date: 26-07-2014

Volunteers from Russia are fighting in Yugoslavia. Is the volunteers, not "soldiers of fortune". They were not mercenaries in Bosnia, where in arms fought on the side of the Serbs. The current war, which, apparently, is only beginning, only gaining strength, this war cannot be comprehended in isolation from the bloody conflict of the mid 90-ies. Witness the "Bosnian diary" Igor G.

Was 1992 the year. In late July, ended the war in Transnistria. Ended in a draw, according to most participants. Many of them already smell gunpowder, lost friends, and hardened, there was a feeling, which can be briefly expressed by the phrase: "Not zavoevali". After the initial euphoria - live! - came as familiar to most professional fighters: the desire to take risks, to live a "full" life. This so-called "gunpowder poisoning syndrome". The people were different. In the ranks of the volunteers were "ideological" monarchists, Cossacks, Communists, just "lovers of war" finally, accidentally caught in the war people.

Already in the last days of the Transnistrian campaign, on the eve of input of peacekeeping forces", a "void sumnyashesya" going to fight on. One, least likely to justify their desires, attracted Karabakh. The others looked at Abkhazia, which enjoyed the support of the "Patriotic" press. And many turned their eyes to Yugoslavia, which went all kinds of rumors. Among the latter was the author of this article.

Now, when the Balkans blazes a new war, when volunteers from Russia by hook or by crook aspire to get to Yugoslavia - it is now the experience of the volunteers who fought in Bosnia, is of undoubted interest.

The author aims only to acquaint readers with the events to which he (and some of his comrades) was in 1992-1993 as well as with some of his conclusions regarding the past and present happening now is another Balkan bloodbath.

It so happened that in Bosnia for the most part got fixed people. So, both of my companions - Andrew Nimenko and "As" (Alexander Mukhariv) were my companions on Transnistria. Both fought in the TSO (Territorial rescue), battalion "South" participated in the fighting on the beachhead Kicinska. With us went and "recruiter" - Yaroslav Yastrebov (which, as it turned out, a very nasty person). All the way recalled the battles in which participated, sought (and found) some friends of friends, and was wondering - how will turn to this adventure. All going As possessed the most wealth of life and military experience. He was appointed commander of the detachment, which the press sounding name of "Royal wolves", and in fact, modestly named the 2nd volunteer. As to the ideology, all three sitting in the train, considered themselves monarchists and patriots (strange, must be for a person far from Russia today, the combination: it would seem that one implies the other, but it's not). And, in General, both my companion policy is not too clear. For them, at least at first, completely unknown was the cause of this war or its aims.

With the train (we went to Belgrade) we were put in a car and drove straight to the hotel. Went through Serbia. Flew past hills and fields region of Sumadija, neat cities and towns. We first came abroad impressed clearly visible wealth everywhere: in the vast expanse of wide highways, and in many private (2-3-storeyed) houses, plenty of cars "prestigious" brands of grooming the fields and roadside Kapan. We got "the West". Involuntarily the question arises: why do these people fight? Meanwhile, the plains gave way to mountains. We passed the Uzice behind the glass flashed tunnels, cliffs, mountain lakes and monasteries. The forest was still green, although it's already November (in Moscow were in the middle of the snow).

Paintings of prosperity and peaceful serenity for the first time violated the border control on the Bosnian border. A few "grandfathers" with carbines, in green uniforms stood at the gate. They were clearly not warlike. Very different look 2-3 soldier "military police": young healthy guys in dandyish camouflage, hung with badges and guns. The time will come and we will learn to recognize these "heroes" fans to run from the battlefield at the slightest danger, while we, the low Russian looked up into "thugs".

For PPC went entirely different picture: coolant-wife's home and entire village. Traces of bullets on the walls, complete solitude here not so long ago was Wicky housing, and the Muslims fled in panic from their homes.

So, 1 November 1992, we arrived in the town of visegrád, occupied 2nd Podrinski legkotekuchie brigade of the army of the Serbian Republic. There were already two Russians who came two days early: Timothy B. (former captain of III rank of the Soviet Navy) and Valery B. (later dubbed the "Labeled" and "Pecnicom" - the former Lieutenant-officer). From that moment began the 2nd RDO.

In the city we came under the sound of a firefight - Serbian artillery fired on the positions of the Muslims, who were just one kilometre from the town. In the evening we got the machines (not a good copy of our "Kalashnikov") and came to the dinner, hosted by the brigade command in our honor. We must pay tribute to the Serbs - either then or later, they did not skimp on the food.

On 14 November we met with the "Serbian way" attack. A group of twenty men (including three Russians) approached the village Sarnitsa. Found six Muslims. From a distance of three hundred meters the village opened fire from three machine guns, grenade launchers, small arms. Two "Muslim" was killed (one of them took a sniper As). The enemy fighters were quickly answered from the houses automatic fire. They ceased fire after one of the houses smashed four grenade launcher shots. The Serbs were no losses. But instead of coming down from the mountain to take a village, Serbs (very happy) went back. Almost killed Andrew Nimenko that waiting for a Serbian attack, went to the houses, preparing to throw their grenades.

Zarnitsa this has become a "stumbling block" for the Serbs. The Muslims kept there a small but strong garrison. They are, despite the constant mortar attacks (vyšehrad was two kilometers away, just over the mountain), managed to even graze in this valley a large herd of cows. Five more times the Serbs went to napadi" on it. There was a case when AU and Andrew went into the village, threw grenades and shot from a grenade launcher two houses, but not supported by the Serbs, were forced to retreat. Another time, going down in the morning mist from the mountain, a group of Russian released in the Windows of the house where he could hear voices, two disposable "Zoli".

Yet the Serbs are not lost under Zarnica a single person. And the Muslims left there after mortar fire "covered" their herd. November was overshadowed by the even and internal discord. After several trips to the mountains became a "give voice" Timothy B. Even during the fight of the 5th he began an altercation with the ACE, that did not stop him the first to disappear from the battlefield. Further - more. Starting from 10 August, Timothy stated that he is in the mountains do not go, As a bad commander that we are all Amateurs compared to him. This did not prevent the "gallant" major every day get drunk in the barracks while the others went into action. Timothy showed familiar to me and Andrew (As not served in CA) the quality of Soviet officer - a dull complacency and unfounded claims. In the end, on 18 November, he was expelled from the squad, but another month he was walking around, doing nothing.

In late November, the team added six new volunteers. Some of them - Andrey Martynov, Michael P. and Valery G. - passed Transnistria, the other three have not yet been fired. 22 November Muslims descended from Vidova mountain, right in the suburbs of Visegrad (Ocolesti), located on the left Bank of the Drina, and a shot from a grenade launcher damaged the substation, which gave the city electricity. Amazing for us, the Russian, the fact that in this war you often watch TV or talk on the phone with Moscow, located a few hundred meters from the front line.

The diversion caused a panic in headquarters, according to Serbian tradition, was not even on duty officer) and our departure on the position. If Muslims do decide to attack, I'm afraid, but us, the city would not protect one. However, nothing happened. We're in for several days increased the garrison of the village of Gorna Lieska, leaving daily on combing or ambush (several times - with minor skirmishes). In those days Muslim snipers wounded on the positions of several Serbs.

In late November, the brigade command (commandant former staff of the Yugoslav Army Colonel Luka Dragicevic - pig and a Communist) decided to push the enemy away from the city to knock it off the mountain Eagle, embossing of villages Rested, Holeczy, Precise. This brought up a squad of mercenaries (Serbs) in Sarajevo, summed up the new howitzer battery. A significant role in the plans took Russian.

Meanwhile, the mood in the squad, made up of eight people in the ranks) was not the best. The Russians have already seen that Serbs there and share the courage that made them in the 1st world war; that "fervency couple of Boban fighting for plunder the captured villages, and the bullets projecting herself very reluctantly; that the Serbs turns out to be a well paid "recruiters" in Moscow, but do not intend to pay the Russian here. Then, however, have begun to pay 100 - 150 DM per month. Finally, the Russians had heard about the atrocities of the Serbs from themselves, and although Muslims and Croats are no better, but it has not made the most favorable impression. Still dominated by the belief that we must protect ordinary Serbs, which (unlike mercenaries Boban) nowhere to run and that any atrocities are not involved.

The end of November was held in preparation for the attack. Serbian "secrecy" led to "from the yellow river to Mother Volga all knew of a secret plan." Suffice it to say that two days before the battle, the crowd of Serbs-volunteers called in Uzice and boasted: "Soon napad", and during the day, the command of the theatre demanded the enemy to surrender their weapons, threatening attack. The task assigned to our group (at the beginning of December it was ten Russians and one Serb), was as follows: to pass as well as November 5, in the rear, to occupy the commanding heights and open fire on the village Rested and enemy positions. Diverting attention, we had to give the Serbs an opportunity to attack the position from the front. General attack was scheduled for 10.00.

3rd Nov our group the night climbed the mountain in the morning and went out to a predetermined position, after which he was fired and took cover along the crest. On the radio we learned the "good" news - the General attack was postponed for three hours. We stayed just the same. The Muslims were on the crest of fire from rifles and machine guns. And they themselves could not see. The bullets were hitting on the rocks. Andrew M. a fragment of an explosive bullet hit the eyelid, Valera "Labeled" a bullet grazed the barrel of a gun. However, the fire of the enemy would not be so disastrous, if we in the rear (the place where long ago a would have to be Serbs, not their sniper. By the time we ran out of tape for the machine gun. Kept throwing down the hill hand grenades. Sniper fire was shot down by our gunner, Andrew Nimenko (explosive bullet hit him in the back - he lived for another 10 - 15 minutes), seriously wounded by an explosive bullet in the thigh was Igor Kazakov. Splinter trombone hooked up (easy) Yuri, a volunteer from Moscow.

Fleeing from sniper fire, everyone started to slide down the ridge. The connection circuit is interrupted. As that went in full growth under machine-gun fire, tried to interact, but at this moment the enemy began to climb the storm and came out on the comb. Flew down hand grenades. With a group of guys (AC, wounded Igor, Sasha Kravchenko fell our Russian RG-42". But by happy accident, left her Muslim not straightened antennae and pulled the ring without checks - a grenade exploded. Muslims beat down with machine guns, but was afraid to comb through. However, and so they got trophies on the crest of the left two machine guns, piles of shredded strips. However, a sniper had fired on the slope, trying to get moving Russian. Only in the evening with the help of the Serbs, managed to get lost a lot of blood Igor. And Andrew, Nimenko hidden whose body remained under the crest, made only in two days.

Meanwhile, while several dozen enemy fighters "dealt" with us, the Serbs undertook a General attack. A group of volunteers-the Montenegrins (Jaruga, his brother and his pigeon radoje their friend Marcone - do brave and honourable men, not subordinate to the brigade headquarters) went to the rear of the Muslims and fire from sniper rifles destroyed the mortar battery calculations (Caroga himself was wounded by a bullet in the arm.) On the enemy positions began to panic. Take advantage of it, Chet Boban, losing only two slightly wounded, took over Pocivalo, capturing the faulty tank (Muslims abandoned him just after he shot all the bullets), gun and heavy machine gun. Were taken prisoners. Went to the Serbs and four mortars. At the same time, two kilometers West of the mercenaries, with the support of tanks and armored personnel carriers took the village of Pratica, but then are unable to move.

Two more days in the mountains continued shooting until the Serbs firmly occupied a single position. The 7th of November, about 70 Serbian soldiers with an armored car came in p. Heliaca and made a right epic robbery. From the outside it looked extremely picturesque. Discordant crowd of motley dressed people (camouflage, protective jackets, saikachi, Chubar, caps) is carried on the shoulders of VCRs, TVs, radios. Someone is found motorcycle, someone the battery out of Volkswagen. Next the Serbs are being driven captured cows and calves. From under the feet of shy chickens - they are no one pays attention. Running became at once the homeless cats and dogs. And one by one break out and burn, throwing in a blue sky a black smoke, rich two-story heap. Noise, noise. But with distant mountains the sound of a place - some of the enemy arrows. Bullets whistle high. The crowd starts to rush. People hide behind walls, behind rocks. With the Serbian positions at once respond with two machine guns, and the shooter stops. Having calmed down the crowd again, slowly, going uphill,...

Unsuccessful battle 3 Dec largely demoralized squad. Talking constantly sounded not too flattering comments about the Serbs (especially on command). Began the cases of drunkenness. Some soldiers, using his "volunteer" status, began uncontrolled "trips" to the city, submitting it for drinking and shooting. For the Serbs it was considered an honor to receive and to drink brandy of any Russian.

Left attached to the detachment of Eugene I. and George I. Fled Serb Simo Glisic (taking part of the squadron of the property). But it came to completion - came from Russia Andrew B. and Peter Malyshev (he died later on 3 October 1994, in the attack on mount Movshevich brdo near the town of Olovo, part of the 3rd WFD). Thus, the detachment was ten men. On 8 December we celebrated the 30th anniversary Valera "Labeled". The table was very modest and without alcohol.

Meanwhile, the situation in the area of vyšehrad remained unclear. As became clear from the testimony of a prisoner, the attack of our team started in less than a day to the same attack from the Muslims. Losing battle, all they have in this area of artillery and about 40 people, those are not, however, completely lost the combat capability. So, on the night of the 8th, they approached the newly engaged Serb positions and made their fire from small arms. "Polozhae" were the so-called "didova rat" (the old militia). Of course, that you barely started the fire, all this "army" ran together, losing one man killed. Fortunately, the enemy is either not expecting a similar or, on the basis of some of their arguments, did not occupy the abandoned trenches.

In retaliation the couple of Boban made a "RAID" on the village Tvrtkovic ended, according to custom, to no avail. While Boban went to "napad", our group covered maintenance services of high voltage line from the power plant somewhere in the North. Before this line was under enemy control, but after the operation, the 3rd number was in Serbian, partly on neutral territory. "War" meaning it was very large "jet" (electricity) was the currency, which, in fact, contained 2 Padinska brigade. Making sure that the enemy is not around, our team together with the Montenegrins and his pigeon radoje Carugi went down to the village of Nasuti where perpetrated what is called "scorched earth". Ie, after a small robbery (done by the Serbs), the village partially burned (all night then above the mountains stood the crimson glow of a fire). Rested on "electrone". We always wondered: why is this critical facility, located in addition, under the noses of the Muslims and quite poorly protected, never in all the war was not attacked. Initially, we believed that the enemy just wants to keep her for himself. But we are "encouraged": a plant regularly continued to give a "jet" in the besieged Sarajevo to attack it made no sense. How true this is, find out we failed.

The following days were busy (as we and the Serbs) with internal squabbles. For constant drunkenness was expelled from the squad Valera (the latter, under the nickname "Pretzel", is still somewhere in Sarajevo), and he went to the mortar battery to the Serbs. Returning from Uici (where he stayed almost constantly) Michael stated that he "agreed" with the commander of another brigade in a high fee for "acts of sabotage" under his leadership, Mishin. After arguing and bickering, Mike, Peter Malyshev, Andrey and Vasily B. V. went to the rear of the garrison on the border with Serbia.

Until we solve their problems, rebelled couple of Boban. On December 11, was scheduled to be a big operation on sweep of the area to the North of Visegrad. Instead of going on a mission Boban brought his couple to the headquarters, where he said that neither he nor his people will not go anywhere until I get a new uniform and pay for two months that they owe. The "Chetniks", who appeared in full armor (even machine guns) was very impressive. After several hours of swearing at the command somewhere there were new uniforms, and money, and yet just a couple of days before they swore that they had nothing in sight.

12 Dec couple of Boban beginning of a new "napad" in the valley of Sarnica. Our group (five Russian and six Serbs with the truck) was moving down along the left Bank of the Drina along the road, looking around the empty burned-out village. The enemy we have not found, but went to "neutral" is pretty deep. On the way back the group a few plunged into the gorge, where the armored car gave a few bursts from a heavy machine gun in the direction of Zarnitsy, where there was (judging by the sound) intense battle. Our participation in the operation and limited. In General, the Serbs, and this time Sarnico not taken, though, and withdrew without losses.

On the same day commemorated the late Andrew Nimenko (9 days). Went to the cemetery. With great interest I examined monuments, among which are the crosses of the fallen soldiers in the Balkan and 1st world wars. According to the priest, in the place where now the dead are buried, was once a mass grave seventy Montenegrin volunteers who died fighting with the Austrians in 1914. Now here was 35 "fresh" crosses (now their three times).

December 13 squad travelled to Belgrade on vacation, where he stayed for 5 days. The city left a not too pleasant experience. Even though we were well received (we lived in a private house in new Pazova and stayed in the club of the Serbian national Renewal - monarchist party), was unpleasantly surprised after the Visegrad Patriarchy "international" market, the abundance of young Russian prostitutes, run-ins with separate Serbs ("go home!") etc. Have to say that pretty boring Vysehrad returned with joy, with the feeling that we are needed there.

The return was alarming: on the eve of the city was shelled by enemy artillery, several shells fell near the Church. Two girls were wounded, slightly wounded and one of the priests - father Marco.

The next day, upon return our team back together - we all moved to the left Bank of the Drina in Ocolesti (outskirts of Visegrad). We were joined by Eugene Margotin ("Odessa", was subsequently wounded twice), trapped in a castle by chance. Prior to that, he was selling Christmas decorations in užice.

By evening, the squad went on the strengthening of the position of the village Rested. The Serbs were waiting for the attack, in the morning on an anti-tank mine blew up the jeep, driving up products. Mines were laid almost under the nose "of the Serbs. The explosion destroyed half a car. The other half threw eight meters. By the roadside were scattered pieces of iron, machine-gun horns, bloody rags. Killed two Serbs (both were familiar to us).

During the day occupied the trenches on Pocivalo. The village almost razed - around shell craters and mines, lying unexploded concrete-bomb - traces of continuous shelling by Serbian artillery. The Serbs entrenched bad. Mainly used in the Muslim trenches, and new to acccess, they have lacked the desire. Masking was absent, - "warriors" fired bonfires right on the crest of the height, not bothering to even something to hide the fire. Several times we were woken up the sleeping Serbian guards. In a word, the guard duty that night was carried, as it should be, just us. Chilled and soaked with smoke. Fortunately, the enemy did not manifest itself. Looking at the behavior of the guards, the AU has decided to continue to put on a night orderly at the entrance to the barracks, where we were placed. Latest strictly observed all the time while we stayed in Visegrad. Later, the Muslims to "punish" the Serbs for such negligence. In February two dead were buried at Pocivalo.

On his return to barracks of the detachment was dismissed Michael. The expulsion was accompanied by threats recent to "deal with us" that caused a smile - Mike demonstrated his "courage", drinking in the rear. On the same day (21 December) the team added four new people. Edward C. four years of fighting in Afghanistan, had a combat order and several medals. He rose to the rank of major and chief of artillery reconnaissance airborne division. I note that Edward is not again clearly demonstrated its endurance and high military professionalism. Basil A. served as Lieutenant of militia in St. Petersburg. Calm like an elephant", he later gained a great reputation as a spotter of our batteries.

Igor A. ("Owner"), a typical, in my opinion, a mercenary came to fight for "habit". He visited Transnistria and Karabakh. A brave and professional soldier, he had one drawback, once perecherkivaet it, drank heavily, in a drunken state, became absolutely uncontrollable.

The last of the newcomers, Alexander R. ("Bird-talker") was distinguished for cunning, meanness and long tongue, "shining" these "qualities" in Transnistria. Supplemented group received from the Serbs armored car. Respect for us has always increased with increasing our numbers, though I have to say, ACE had already had a legendary reputation. 23 Dec squad along with a couple of Boban were combing the area villages Sarnica, Tusta-Med, Cerni Vrh. Muslims left their positions and withdrew from these villages - no one to detect them, we failed. The 24th started a large (for our size) operation. The Serbs decided to take a big Jaskici village, located about seven kilometers West of the city. According to them, the village was a considerable garrison, and the approaches to it were mined.

Just for the attack was allocated approximately eighty men (including 12 Russians), with the support of the armed with two recoilless guns tracked armored personnel carriers, armored cars and three mortars (2 - 120 mm, 1-82 mm). Made at 8 o'clock in the morning. In thick fog a long way along a snowy mountain road, serpentine road climbing up the hill. First came the scouts with a mine detector, and two Russian commanders - Boban captain Perica Markovic - head of the intelligence brigade. By 11 o'clock the column had come to a small plateau Dobro Polje. The fog became almost an impenetrable - 10 meters it was impossible to distinguish the figure of a man. Approached the Serbs showed on the map the mountain Zaglavak (height 1366) and said that the us seeks to take this height and cover advanced her technique, and the Serbs, meanwhile, needs via G. Stolz to attack Junkichi in the forehead. Convincing us that we have "an easy task" Serbian commanders showed show us a suspicious sparkle. To dispel our doubts, they said today Zaglowce visited their intelligence, and that the Muslims there. The latter seemed convincing. Leaving two people to communicate and taking Serb-conductors, As ordered to move to Zaplavka.

Sinking knee-deep in snow, in thick fog, and we twenty minutes carefully moved on a fairly level field. Everything seemed in order. We have already started to rise, when he heard machine-gun fire, and above us the bullets whistled. A squad scattered: someone hid behind the piles of stones (apparently denoting the boundaries of private land), someone just got pushed into the snow. The shooting continued, although the shooter obviously didn't see us - the fog had become even thicker. The soldiers hastily made for fighting has racked the guns, prepared trombone. The AU has decided to go forward, but when he said about the Serbs, those angrily nodded their heads and said that "there is not possible, tamo pecaut!" Waving to them, As was ordered to deploy in two "chains" (for five people) and to move forward by bounds. The Serbs and remained lying in the snow. Slow, hard running in deep snow, we moved up. The shooting then stopped, then started again, bullets whistled up and down. We did not answer. Walked in silence. The fog began to thin out, when we were going round the height to the left, left to its long, narrow ridge, overgrown with thick bushes of mountain oak. And then the fog dropped sharply above us was blue sky with bright sun. With materkom, loud shouting, but not shooting, the Russians began to climb the ridge. There is no one. As they topped a hill, and then around him jumped fountains machine-gun fire. We responded with trombone, and the machine gun fell silent. Zaglavak was taken. We carefully examined uneven, covered with rocks and pitted with depressions a ridge. Everywhere were long-term, with stone parapets of the trenches, emplacements. In the snow - a scattering of fresh shells, dying campfires around them, boxes, stumps for sitting. Four, five, six... And more traces, running in the snow.

Below us stretched a gradually retreating sea fog. He bared slopes: the one on which we walked, and the one that was lying on the other side. On the ground blackened in the bright white snow shapes both our "Vodica" (shoot - do not want), the other figures of the other Muslims. They have gone beyond our fire, but went hastily to 12 people... If we stayed with the Serbs, hardly one of us walked away from these shooters. It became very clear that if the Serbs and not composed their intelligence as such, then it is here that the scouts not seen since the last war. However, height was in our hands. We are located along the crest and began to wait for the armored cars. Waited three and a half hours, from time to time firing trombone woods on the slope, where the disappeared had escaped the Muslims. The technique never came back - tracked armored car was jammed control and other "BOV" in tow he dragged him back. Serbian infantry after a five-minute firefight also hastily departed. We waited a long time for support, listening to the rustle of heavy minutes, flying over our head, until he finally got the order to retreat. On the way back the convoy opened fire, but, fortunately, inaccurate.

After returning from the rally, met two new guys who came in our absence. Both waited a long time. Dmitry Chekalin, climber-rescuer, fought in Transnistria. Desperately brave, prone to reckless risk Dmytro died 10 Mar 1993 in the battle of Tuzla, blew himself up with a grenade surrounded by enemies. Dima "Romanian", a former student-scholar (also visited the Dniester river), was his complete opposite. Careful and cautious (sometimes overly) he, however, had a cheerful optimism that attracted to him universal sympathy. Good friends, Chekalin and "Romanians" constantly gave many hours of humorous debate, to listen to that without smiling was impossible. A few days after the surgery, 24 the number of passed in anticipation. On the one hand, waiting for a new attack on Jaskici promised by the Serbs. On the other, awaited the arrival of fifty Cossacks, recruited Ilya I. in Moscow. And now, 27th, vyšehrad was the first to arrive, three of the Cossack "hundreds". They are from the first day settled separately from us, as, according to the agreement, the Cossacks had to be a separate unit. The difference was at least in the fact that we are coming to Bosnia, do not expect that we will be any to pay (however, we received 100 - 150 DM per month), and the Cossacks have agreed in advance on 350 brands. In addition, we expected that the Cossacks any side will join us in the squad. But the recruiter, a certain Alexander "Zagreb" (by his own admission, former Lieutenant of the NKVD of the Soviet Army), looked at us differently, like on some "competitors" that subsequently led to a number of clashes and turmoil.

However, the squad arrived one man, though quite unexpectedly. Independently reached Vladimir - "the Doctor" from Kharkov. Figure for our squad he was clearly atypical. A biologist by education (graduated from University), Vladimir was an extreme Ukrainian nationalist, member of several Ukrainian political groups of this kind. But because he gave the impression of a very serious objection to its entry into force is not caused. And subsequently we did not have to regret this.

One of the strongest impressions of Belgrade became for us to visit the Russian Church, built in the years of the White emigration. The priest, father Vasily, the son and grandson of white officers who gladly took us in, showed us a small Museum that when the Church was blessed on military work. For many of us it was, in fact, the first encounter with the story of the White matter, with the memory of the Russian Imperial Army on Serbian soil. For me it was a great joy to see the memorial headstone P. N. Wrangel, various (well known books) relics of the White Army.

27 Dec team received new weapons. Instead of the armored car, which the Serbs decided to give the Cossacks arriving, we were given two 82 mm mortar rounds, a machine gun "MG" (for the German model "MG-43"), mines and small arms for the newly arrived fighters. During two days was performed exercises: calculations of mortars under the leadership of Edward learned how to use guns, and the arrows were shot a new weapon.

The detachment was divided into two parts: the reconnaissance-strike group led by the AU and the mortar platoon under the command of Edward. A General guide to the detachment remained with the AC.

Meanwhile intensively preparing a new attack on Jaskici. Serbs spurred fights that went the last three days to the West of the city, near the town of Rogatica. We heard fierce gunfire and no less fierce rumors of a Muslim attack and gained their success. Later, however, news about the failures of the Serbs was not confirmed.

On the eve of the Serbian brigade received reinforcements in Vysehrad moved nedoformirovan "Grajdanskaya" brigade (5th Padinska) composed of (approximately) two hundred people arrived cargo "kamioni and anti-aircraft guns. Decisive attack on Junkichi began on the morning of December 30. We were up at 3.30 at night. In the dark sat in a pre-loaded car and drove to the starting point - the village of Gorna Lieska. The detachment the surgery left 16 people. Serbian infantry consisted of more than 100 soldiers with the support of the tank"Sherman" post-war model), armored cars and recoilless guns. From the stationary positions of the operation was to support four artillery and mortar batteries. Without stopping in Gorno-Lieske, a convoy of four trucks, tanks and armored cars went on the Mountain Kocharin, and then on to Junkichi. The other part of the column moved to the mountains in the direction of Junkichi rogatica the road. At this time, in order to accelerate the movement of the Serbs expelled forward of manolovici" despite the last day before the snow which could cover up the min. setting on Reaching threat, in their view, road, Serbian cars got together. Our truck walking in the middle of the column, also stopped. Imagine our surprise when we were approached by the officer and said that we have to go to the head of the column. To explain intelligibly the reason for this need he failed. The only thing that occurred to us on this occasion was: "Russian do not mind!" After much wrangling, we still obeyed the order. As I moved from the cockpit into the body ("Die together!"). Went, sitting on the boxes of mortar shells, and grimly joked about how we were going to penetrate the minds of the tarpaulin when blown sky-high. Luckily, the Muslims are not smart enough to mine the road after our attack of the 24th number. We made it safely to the Good of the Field and turned in the direction Zilavka. His way, once again had to take us though this time there was no one there. On Zaglowce launched one mortar. The Serbs on the horse dragged recoilless gun. After many attempts climbed to the crest of the Sherman and armored car. The Serbian infantry began to Junkichi via G. Stolz, and As our scouts moved with Zilavka directly to the village. The artillery remaining on the mountain, the battle came down to the fire for came into view in a haze of fog about a mile from us, the village. The fire led, conferring with the Serbian tanks which were rangefinder. Through our the head with a howl flew mines and shells the Serbian batteries. From time to time revived entrenched somewhere in Stolze Muslim hands, and then a bullet screamed over the rocks quite near us, but we continued to fire.

Meanwhile, Serbian infantry began to Junkichi directly across an open field. Once under fire, the Serbs lay down and have long held an inconclusive skirmish in the hope that "Sherman" their fire to suppress the enemy firing points. But as the Serb side was not the spotter, the tank carried missiles house to house, while the enemy is stuck in the trenches and bunkers on the outskirts of the village. Cheering himself with a song, the Serbs finally rushed forward, but immediately came under fire, again lay down. This attempt cost them, however, expensive. For a moment they lost in killed three officers. Bullets had killed the captain Perica Markovic, the commander of the assault platoon Miroslav Koch and commander "grajdanskogo" platoon Dusan Baranec. Three soldiers were seriously injured. While the bulk of the Serbs was out of the battle in the trenches, As with the seven Russians and five Serbs tried to go to the village edge of the woods. But there it opened fire. One of the Serbs (named Shusha) bullet easily wounded in the neck, and he left the machine and ran to the rear. Making a cast is a group of speakers took the Muslims abandoned the trench and moved on, despite the fierce rifle and machine-gun fire. Nervously, the enemy began to fire at them from a grenade launcher - cumulative missiles with a Bang exploded in the branches of pine trees, bark flying from the bullets.

Coming to the edge of the forest, a few dozen meters from the enemy "the bunker" our lay. Ahead was almost a bare field, rising up to the trenches. To go forward seemed sheer madness. But As with the words: "I shall Now depict Alexander Matrosov" (a famous hero of the great Patriotic war, which closed with his body recess German bunker rushed forward. With him went a Serb named Milorad. The others have covered them with fire, not allowing the Muslims to lean out of the trenches. When he reached the foot of the hill on which was the bunker, As and Milorad saw flew out, one after another, three hand grenades. One of them fell just two meters away from the ACA, and he barely managed to roll to avoid being hit by shrapnel. Jerking in response to his grenade, As has popped up on the parapet of the trench and saw the two fleeing "muslikov". Having laid from a machine one, As he began to shoot another, but he fell into the bushes and it was unclear what happened to him. Leaving, just in case, there are two more grenades, the AU has remained in the busy bunker. This also ran Sasha Kravchenko (subsequently twice severely wounded, lives in Visegrad), Eugene "Odessa", Vasily V., Jaruga and Rage. They took the position, as it seemed a group of four Muslims, hastily moving along the track up the mountain (apparently they ran out of the trenches). "Odessa" and Basil was put in one of them, two managed to escape. In the trenches, and killed by the Muslims found the grenade launcher, a machine gun "PC" with a fully rasshirennoi tape on 600 rounds of ammunition and a sniper rifle "SVD" with seven notches in his belt, several grenades of Soviet production. Some time group Asa held the occupied position, leading the skirmish with the enemy, but seeing that Boban started off, went through the woods to Zaplavka, without suffering losses.

The Serbs left slowly, sullenly, the failure of the attack and the loss suppressed. A long chain of soldiers slowly emerged from behind Zaglowka Good Field where already waiting for the trucks. Our mortars covered the withdrawal, reversal, and chain guns in their hands. The only exception was "Bird-talker", running and shouting, "surround us" that "we should leave, and that will kill us all". He even remembered that he is a senior reserve Lieutenant in the Soviet Army, and tried to order, but he rudely interrupted, was called a coward (which he certainly was) and made to lie in the chain. After a while, making sure that As the Serbs returned safely, and we departed. Below, the machines, the Russians and the Serbs crowded around the dead. Baranca we didn't know, but death Perico and KOICA was for us a great loss. Perico Markovich was, perhaps, the most respected us officer in the brigade. Later we heard from the Serb version that he was someone shot in the back (it was intended to place the brigade commander and he was popular among the soldiers). Perico was the last in the family - his two brothers had already died on other fronts.

Miroslav Koch did not finish University of Sarajevo. He specialized in the history of Kievan Rus. He was not an outstanding commander, but the bullet is not ran and the man was good and honest. Good understanding of in Russian, and often came to our barracks.

New year's eve (new style) party met in good spirits. After the bath in the tourist complex "Visegradska Banya, we went back into town and suddenly noticed how changed Vysehrad for those two months since we came here. Instead of deserted streets - a lot of civil people, open shops and kafala. Instead of kerosene lamps - a bright light, the lights of private vehicles. New year met with the tree for quite a rich table with guests-Montenegrins, with shooting tracers into the night sky (it was fired the whole city, even the howitzer battery was sent 12 shells somewhere to Muslims). Yet not in vain, it seemed to us, was this - 1992. We wanted to believe that the coming year will bring us victory here and possibly in Russia. And we raised glasses of champagne for Our Victory, for Our country, for Our group.

Now, two years after the events described, much is seen differently. But in the short story I tried to repair the perception of the event, which was then. A detachment of the swell and shrinking (from 10 to 25 people - so varied its composition), moving from place to place, existed until November 1993, when his banner was handed over to the Russian Church, and the remaining people moved to the 3rd WFD. The detachment fought under Vysehrad until mid-February 1993, then until the end of March - near Tuzla. Then he moved to Podgram and in Sarajevo. Varied people (the author returned to Russia in early April 1993), changed commanders. Was unsuccessful and successful battles, trophies, loss...

Describe the history of the order journal articles difficult, and not necessary. It's only a book. Especially since there were other troops - 1st WFD in Trebinje, 1, 2 and 3 combined Cossack squadrons in Visegrad, more 3rd RBD in Sarajevo.

In conclusion, we can only say that we are proud of our affiliation to the 2nd RDO, who made a small but nevertheless real contribution to the protection of Serbian Bosnia, to the preservation of traditions of Russian-Serbian military brotherhood.
