The specifics of modern armed conflicts has forced States to rethink approaches to the conduct of military operations, and to modernize its own armed forces, equipping them with new weapons systems and military equipment. One of the most important elements in building combat-ready forces is the presence of precision-guided weapons.

For the first time its effectiveness has been demonstrated by the air forces of the USA during the Gulf war in 1991, currently the development of these weapons systems is also active in China and Russia received the opportunity to apply the results achieved in the course of military operations in Syria. Development history, technical capabilities, trends of the various types of guided weapons and means of combating it on the new book by Oleg Valetsky "Weapons of modern warfare. Practice".

The development of offensive types of arms is inextricably linked to the search for the answer to emerging challenges through the establishment of adequate systems of protection, so logical is the fact that in the first Chapter of the book focuses on ballistic missile defense (BMD). The authors refer to the history of Soviet-American confrontation during the cold war, led to the emergence of two different systems of strategic missile defence.

In addition, the text elaborates on the modern domestic and foreign funds ABOUT. Hotel interesting is the section on such promising areas as laser weapons designed to disable optical-electronic devices, homing missiles or even direct destruction of targets.

The second Chapter describes the history of the spread and development of missile technologies to such countries as Israel, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, etc. the Authors emphasize that the wide availability of guided weapons and improve its characteristics poses new threats to the security of States, noting that "the only guarantee of protection in this case serve as air defense systems, missile defense and space exploration".

It should be noted that the controlled weapon is dedicated to many publications, but most of them focuses on the aviation component, while the favorable distinctive feature of the reviewed book is the wide scope. So, in the third Chapter, on the example of the naval forces of China as carriers guided weapons are considered surface ships – a General overview, composition and dynamics, as well as the characteristics and main features weapons. On the basis of the conducted analysis, experts note a steady quantitative growth of escort fleet of the Chinese, the development of which the country is making significant efforts and significant progress in equipping ships with new weapons systems. At the same time, China remains dependent on imported technology, especially in the field of engine. Despite this fact and the lack of experience of combat use of these weapons systems, the available forces and means "are able to create a strategic threat to any potential enemy," the authors conclude.

Did not remain without attention and man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS), which can serve as a means of defense and attack. The fourth Chapter discusses the main complexes of the leading countries-manufacturers, experience of their application in armed conflicts and terrorist purposes, as well as the means of resistance. Widespread features (compactness, light weight, range of defeat) make effective MANPADS and other dangerous weapons.

The final article is justified dedicated managed aircraft weapons of world leaders in this area of the United States and NATO – the author analyzes the experience of application of various types of guided weapons in the military operations of the Alliance and represents the main perspective directions of development of these systems.

Oleg Valetsky raised a very important and topical subject of guided weapons, which will largely determine the nature of future armed conflicts. The advantages of the book include the abundance of factual material detailed overview of the features and experience with various weapons systems. All this will allow the reader to understand a difficult topic to build a common chronology, and, if necessary, again refer to the publication as a reference manual.
