As stated by the representative of the Higher Council for talks on the Syrian opposition, currently the priority task of the opposition in the country is the fight against terrorism, and more neither the opposition nor its supporting Western countries do not require the immediate ouster of the incumbent President Bashar al-Assad.

As the head of the coordination Council of the Syrian opposition, as well as the representative of the Supreme Commission for negotiations on the Syrian opposition Hassan Abdel-Azim, in the coming months in Saudi Arabia have held a full-scale summit of the Syrian opposition. To this he also added that Saudi Arabia also no longer calls for the immediate resignation of the current head of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad. On this occasion he said the following: "currently, the priority is the confrontation in Syria is terrorism, led by such entities as ISIS and Jabhat al-nusra (the banned terrorist organization — approx.ed.).

And that position is not only Saudi Arabia but also the United States, France, great Britain, United Europe, UN, Turkey, Russia and all other States. Also Abdel-Azim and spoke on the requirements of the Kurdish minority on the formation of autonomy. He said, "in the Supreme Commission, and in the framework of the coordinating Council of our coordinated position is the thesis of the inadmissibility of any federalization of Syria, because we are not Europe and not the United States. In Syria, only 25 million inhabitants, and it consists of 14 provinces, so any claims from any groups first, premature, and secondly, will never get full support. Accordingly, we do not want the fragmentation of Syria into small States". According to him, as the experience of the referendum held in Iraqi Kurdistan, Kurdish Democratic Union party and its supporters can no longer require the formation of a Federal government in Syria. The representative of the opposition was echoed by former U.S. Ambassador to Syria, who stressed that the government of Bashar al-Assad has strengthened its position in the West and in the East of the country, and now civil war in Syria has entered a new phase. According to the ex-envoy, "thanks to the support that the Assad regime has received from Russia and Iran, government forces clearly achieve results in the East, and the situation there is changing. And now the US must decide how and when it would be better to leave Syria". Robert Ford said that "the US does not have any suitable alternatives in Syria, and all the available options that they have are either bad or worse." As for the current President Bashar Assad, "the hope for a peaceful departure and a peaceful transition of power, no longer exists, or rather, hope, this, rather, is illusory and therefore unattainable". Ford also believes that we should probably exclude such an alternative, as support for the opposition, as Syrian government forces intend to regain control over the whole country and everything goes to the fact that they will manage.

It came even before, that a contradictory and inconsistent position of the US towards the current President of Syria and his future began to criticize in the Saudi media. As wrote one of the publications, statements by U.S. Secretary of state "doesn't inspire the Syrian opposition, but they also do not produce the desired impression on the regime in Damascus". The newspaper al-Chatfreelive the effects that can have the recent statements of U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson as for the future of Syria and the Bashar al-Assad, and came to the conclusion that his words do not serve as an incentive for the Syrian opposition, but not have the desired effect in Damascus. Recall that last week he Tillerson made a statement, which claimed that, say, "the era of the reign of the Assad dynasty came to an end, and the only problem that remains is how exactly to implement it".

Session "Astana-7"

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in its special statement announced the beginning of a new session in Astana, called "Astana-7": it will have to be present all the missions, aims settlement of the Syrian crisis. It is expected that during this round of negotiations agreement was reached on the release of political prisoners and all detainees [the regime in Damascus — approx. transl.] .

The Syrian mission under the presidency of Bashar Jaafari yesterday held the first meeting of this round of talks. The Syrian delegation also held a meeting and bilateral consultations with the delegation of Iran led by Hossein Jabari Ansari, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In addition, after this meeting, the Syrian delegation was negotiating with the delegates from Russia, under the leadership of special envoy of the Russian President on Syria by Alexander Lavrentiev. The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, announcing the beginning of meetings and negotiations in the Republic's capital, Astana, announced the talks as "having the purpose to achieve concrete results in the elaboration of joint decisions on the Syrian settlement". Bilateral and multilateral meetings of participants of the negotiation process took place behind closed doors, and it is also holding and open meeting. As noted by some Syrian sources, were identified a range of issues for consideration and decision on appropriate action by the participants of this session in Astana, and among these questions the following may be highlighted — the exact location of the Supervisory forces of the ceasefire in Idlib (from each of the countries-guarantors of a ceasefire), questions about prisoners, detainees and prisoners of war, the transfer of the bodies, the search of persons missing during the civil conflict, the delivery of humanitarian aid to areas under siege, especially in the province of Eastern ghouta. Thus, as stated by the special representative of the President of Russia on Syria, from the government and President Bashar al-Assad, there is a commitment to a political settlement and constitutional reforms.

However, some media reported that the government in Damascus, a proposal was made to the Kurdish wing of the Union of Democratic forces of Syria to form the responsible authorities in the North of the country in exchange for the withdrawal of Kurdish forces from areas and districts where the predominant Arab population. As reported by Arabic-language newspaper al-Kudus, Ali Mamluk, head of the national security of ATS, met and negotiated with representatives of the Union of Democratic forces of Syria in an area under the control of government forces, near the town of Qamishli province of al-Hasaka, and discussed in these negotiations the issues of possible government [for the Kurds — approx. transl.]. Meanwhile, the Russian State Duma made a statement about that before the end of this year, Syrian government forces will return control of all territory up to the Eastern borders of the country.
