The rank of superpowers. Russia again at the end of the list?
Material posted: Publication date: 21-02-2013

Russia is good for nothing. This clearly shows the global competitiveness ranking, compiled by the world economic forum in Davos. The Russian Federation occupies the 66th place of honor immediately after Vietnam and before the South American state of Peru. Lead, as always, neutral Switzerland, a developed Japan, happy USA and their faithful friends from the European Union, as well as the fabulous city-state of Singapore.

What about Russia (it – unwashed Russia or, simply, "Raska")? Savage state, lost somewhere in the ice in the North of the Eurasian continent. The Russians, the Mongols are not able to do nothing but to extort from their subsurface natural gas and to launch into space discs. And still – forever flout democratic values and violate the rights of sexual minorities. First place in the world in consumption of alcohol and alcohol-containing products. What more is there to say?

Sixty-sixth place for our country ... well, thanks for not 142. it is Clear that after 20 years of relentless reforms in the first place we explicitly do not pull. The rating is composed by highly qualified experts, there is no reason not to trust this information.

Stop! And what is this?! How in the "first twenty", along with the USA, Germany and Japan were leaked to Saudi Arabia, Canada and Australia. What's with these "superpowers"? Did the experts forum in Davos, seriously believe that the global competitiveness of Canada (12th) higher than that of China (26th place)?

It may be necessary to remind the respected experts main features of the state, giving him the right to be called a superpower? Without the crafty GDP figures and other ratings of "average temperature on chamber". What factors determine the country's geopolitical weight on the world map? How is the global competitiveness today and what is the difference between a first world country from third world countries?

The first, obvious, condition is that a superpower must not be subordinated to another country. Neither in formal nor in practical terms! Superpower is an independent state, independently determines its domestic and foreign policies on the basis of personal needs and interests.

And what we are now seeing? From the ranking of the "superpowers" out with a Bang Canada and Australia. Both Nations - the dominions of the British Empire. The form of government is a constitutional monarchy headed by the Governor-General, i.e., formally, Canada and Australia are still subject to the Queen of great Britain!

What about drowning in luxury Saudi Arabia? Influential middle Eastern country living under medieval law, of great authority among the Muslim world. And on the territory of Saudi Arabia is a major U.S. air base "the Prince the Sultan" that hosts the control Center of Aerospace operations in the middle East. And for good reason.

The old model of European colonialism was in full occupation of the overseas countries. By the beginning of XXI century the USA have improved this model, now for control over the conquered country enough to have a compact number of bases. Air base "the Prince the Sultan" - a clear symbol of the mercy of Saudi Arabia from Washington's economic, military and political spheres. Here is the news! – happy liberal-democratic community - And the NATO base in Ulyanovsk? Turns out our "Raska" is also sold with giblets West?

I'll have to disappoint the supporters of Russia's entry into NATO. Transit point at the airport Ulyanovsk-Vostochny in all senses is not a foreign military base. Foreign goods are carefully checked by Russian customs, at the "base" does not have a permanent military contingent of the camp of NATO, in the end, it is about the only "non-military cargoes". No fighters and tanks – only stew and cans of fresh water. With the same success you can declare a "foreign military base", any international airport or a foreign Embassy in Russia.

Now, we all know that the "superpower" Australia, Canada and Saudi Arabia do not correspond to the declared status. They, formally or in fact, dependent on other States. By the way, only formally, in Canada two of the military facilities the U.S. air force. In Australia four such objects.

Esteemed experts from Davos, you are ready to continue research in the field of compliance of candidate countries to the role of "superpowers"? There are a number of important criteria: "Superpower" is a priori is the leader of the Union of States. From this position looks great Saudi Arabia. The birthplace of the Great Prophet always played a key role in the life of the Muslim world. Its position has further intensified with the discovery of rich deposits of oil. The last half-century, all countries in the middle East, one way or another, adjust their decisions in accordance with the official position of Riyadh, listening to Saudi Arabia. Undisputed leader.

Australia and Canada in the span. The first is the former British hard labor, lost somewhere in the middle of an endless ocean in the southern hemisphere of the Earth. The second seek to assert themselves, trying to shout down its southern neighbor. Alas, the opinions of Canadians, on the background of American opinion, sounds every bit as loud and clear as the breath of the driver on the background growl of the engine KAMAZ. And really, when we say "America", we somehow do not think that on this continent, except the United States, there is one rather big country. That's the answer.

What about "wild law"? And nothing, remains the key country in the post-Soviet space. Despite all attempts to embroil brotherly peoples, still strong ties between Russia, Ukraine and Belarus – a single visa-free space, the inhabitants of which the majority "everyone knows the rosiyska movu". The majority of the inhabitants of the Caucasus and Central Asia have not forgotten the Russian language, in Russia eager crowds of workers, there live large communities of immigrants from these countries.

The "Baikonur" cosmodrome, the Russian 102nd military base in Gyumri (Armenia), 7th Russian base in Abkhazia, radar station "Daryal" system of missile warning (Azerbaijan) radar station "Volga" and the 43rd communications center of the Navy on the territory of Belarus, the air base "Kant" in Kyrgyzstan, the system of control of outer space "Window" in the mountains of Tajikistan, finally, the black sea fleet in Sevastopol – say what spiteful critics of the Russian people, the Russian military presence remains strong.

Russia is not merely fictitious in control of 1/6 of the world's land area. Russian barbarians constantly redraws it at your discretion! And those who do not want to live a routine rules – dub tanks and forced to be eaten by their own ties. Fu! How undemocratic and intolerant. However, the "unwashed Russia" on the strength of its effect bypasses wide deserted Canada and Australia. Global influence of Saudi Arabia is limited to the preaching of "the Holy Jihad" and the preparation of militants-suicide bombers.

Interesting to know the opinion of experts from Davos about Russia's membership in the United Nations. UN – old strong organization that still maintains some powers in the sphere of global security. For what it merits is a bad law, together with a good USA, China, UK and France received the "veto power"? (Veto is a useful thing, for example, the refusal of the Russian side to sign the resolution on Syria is automatically nullified all the efforts of the American and British diplomats). And why exactly Russian language was privileged to be one of six world languages of the UN?

The answer seems obvious: first, Russia is great, and the number of Russian speakers is estimated at 250 million people worldwide. Secondly, I remember the legendary joke by Stalin: "the Vatican city State? And how many divisions?"

Divisions in Russia do not count. Despite all the brutal democratic reforms, the Russian Federation has managed to save quite a hefty part of the armed forces and defence industry of the Soviet Union. The Russian armed forces still has no equal on the European continent. The German army has degraded to such an extent that the number of tanks of the Bundeswehr will soon be limited to 120 units. The once mighty British Navy have 19 frigates. Of the twenty-seven EU member States, nuclear submarines are only in the UK and France.

Purely for comparison, the number of combat-ready main battle tanks of the Russian army is estimated at 6500 units (total number, given in custody – 22000 units). The number of military personnel – 1.1 million people (comparable to the population of Estonia!). In service with the Russian air force are 1200 combat aircraft and about the same number of the same helicopters (not including reserve). Despite reasonable doubts about the technical condition of the Russian aircraft, the Russian air force still pose a considerable threat to any "potential enemies". In spite of all the efforts of "reformers", the U.S. President continues to receive samples of the latest aircraft and air defense systems, which have no analogues abroad (as corny as that sounds).

Finally, the main argument, the ACE of the Russian deck – the world's largest arsenals of weapons of mass destruction. Australia, Canada and Saudi Arabia remain "duped".

Over the past half century the number of countries possessing nuclear weapons has grown manifold. The pioneers – USA and the USSR/Russia was soon added the UK, France and China. Nuclear weapons were already with Pakistan and India. Existing samples are available in Israel. Informal experiments holds North Korea. Dozens of countries have their own nuclear centers and is also not familiar with the technology of nuclear fission.

But! Even the possession of a couple of ready ammunition in fact does not make the country a major player in this field. Nuclear weapons without the appropriate means of delivery – a paper tiger, dangerous only for its owner. To date, only Russia and the US have enough warheads and their carriers for the application of a massive nuclear strike. Synchronous volley of hundreds of Intercontinental ballistic missiles are guaranteed to break through any, even the most perfect missile defence system and will fall rain of fire on any point on the planet. Distinguished experts from Davos, please take note of that, when will be the next rating of the global impact of the countries of the world.

In my opinion, one of the most important criteria that distinguish the country of the third world from a superpower – the level of development of science-intensive industries. Nanotechnology, Biomedicine, electronics. You can sneer about "nanosimulation Russian" and "Russian IPhone", but the fact remains – Russia is one of the four countries (the US, Russia, China, Japan. Also, I believe it is the creation of the fighter of the 5th generation in France – the French defence industry, despite the official rejection of the papers on the subject, always spent quite dependent policy and time and again surprised the world by creating superior aircraft designs), the capacity to develop and launch a series of fighter fifth generation. Only using your own materials, technologies and developments. Creating aircraft of such a level is more difficult than flying in space.

Space... So hackneyed subject that we note it only in Scalzi. Yes, today, "Raska" is the only country in the world engaged in manned launches into space. The total number of runs - also first place in the world. Only twenty-three successful launches in 2012. This is not the only artificial satellite launched by North Korea, and not a single Iranian monkey in space. But seriously, the Russian orbital constellation is composed of satellites of the global positioning system "GLONASS", as well as more specific things – space radio telescope "Radioastron" and the satellites of the global system of electronic intelligence "Liana". That's not counting the dozens of other existing space vehicles: satellites, scouts, relays, scientific instruments. However, in the ranking of technological development, Russia is why it takes 62 place between Costa Rica and Pakistan.

You think it's strange that we haven't thought about Australia, Canada and Saudi Arabia? All right, to the creation of high technologies, they have the same attitude as the Inuit to the construction of the Egyptian pyramids. Of course, in Canada and Australia there are many research centers and high-tech industries. However, there is evidence that Australia and Canada are not able even to dream on the theme of launches into space or the creation of a fifth generation fighter.

And yet, snowmobiles and business jets from canadian firm Bombardier look very impressive on the background industry of Saudi Arabia. Depraved endless stream of petrodollars, the Saudis generally do not produce and do not create. And not going to do that. Before us is a real "living dead" with gloomy prospects for the future – after the exhaustion of oil fields, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is at risk of relapsing into medieval chaos. Country "third world", nothing more to add.

Well, with Australia, Canada and Saudi Arabia all became more or less clear. The question remains, what place should be Russia?
