The Libyan crisis to be solved, and should do it peacefully. This was stated in the chamber of Commerce of Russia, the Chairman of the African Union, the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. In an interview with CCI-inform he supported the actions of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who was sent to Libya special representative.
The special representative of the President of Russia for Africa Mikhail Margelov arrived in Libya. He intends to meet in Benghazi with representatives of the opposition, but also "other political forces to address issues related to the settlement of the situation in that country and discussions on the humanitarian aspect".
Obiang Nguema Mbasogo expressed the point of view of the African Union on the Libyan crisis, stressing that the problem in Libya is an internal problem of the country. She must be resolved peacefully. If there are any UN resolution that authorized the invasion of other States, when there arises a difficult situation, this invasion should not harm those countries, and can lead to consequences that we are witnessing now in Libya. "What is happening there now, not humanitarian aid. They kill people, destroy buildings. We believe that the Russian Federation can help resolve this situation peacefully," said Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
The African Union over a long period, we evaluated the situation and tried to help to settle a dispute between the Libyan government and the rebels. He spoke with various representatives of the rebels with the aim to resolve the situation. "We did not participate in the Paris meeting of the leaders of several European countries and the USA, because we believe that the policy of invasion and violence is unacceptable to Africa. We want to apply to Russia, so she has stepped up its efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis that the right of African States to the sovereignty respected. I think that Russia's efforts to find a compromise will not be in vain. More active participation of Russia in solving this issue can lead only to increase its credibility among African States, to strengthen mutual cooperation. We call on Russia to actively act in the international arena to achieve equilibrium. We call on Russia to provide African countries with primarily moral support in the struggle for their rights, for defending their independence and sovereignty", – he stressed.
Today many African States are still weak, so the interference can be a common practice. It should not be alien to the country, not to invade Africa and to punish a government, said Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Although we do not have sufficient military power, we want in Africa was world. We defend the interests of freedom and democracy, advocating the economic development of our countries, but we are against the power plants of democracy.
The African Union has developed a "road map" for Libya, and the document has found understanding on the part of Muammar Gaddafi. This plan includes, inter alia, an immediate ceasefire, open humanitarian corridors for civilians, and negotiations between the government and the rebels. In addition, it is planned to determine the transition period for political reform.
"It must be remembered that Muammar Gaddafi did a lot for his people and country. When they say that he has to go, not saying where he should go. For me, this passage is somewhat strange, because it should be remembered that Gaddafi is a citizen of their country. I think that today Libya is the issue of implementation of political reforms that will enable all interested parties to participate in resolving the conflict", – said in conclusion the head of the African Union.
