The article is devoted to the struggle for Kurdish independence in the region of their compact residence on the territory of Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran. Analyses the policy of the United States and the Soviet Union/Russia in the Kurdish area. It is shown that the Kurdish factor in the policy of the great powers in the middle East were used without taking into account fundamental national interests of the Kurdish people and does not solve the problem of creating an independent Kurdistan. The unresolved status of this problem has a destabilizing impact on the regional geopolitical situation due to the presence of a single anti-Kurdish front four above mentioned States, refusing a peaceful solution to the Kurdish problem.
